The Master Cleanse

Posted by Cass on March 22, 2009, at 15:33:28

Hi,
I've started the master cleanse. I've done it several times before for varying lengths of time, the longest was 14 days. It is sort of drastic, I suppose, but I think a modified fast will help reduce my cravings for sugar and salt and processed foods. Then when I'm finished, I'll start back on a healthy plant-based diet of mostly raw food. The cleanse will get at least some of this weight off my body, and that'll be an encouraging start.
If anyone doesn't know what the master cleanse is, it's a diet of "lemonade." The recipe is made with fresh-squeezed lemon juice, grade b maple syrup, water and cayenne pepper. It tastes good. You drink about 10 glasses a day. In the morning you do a salt water flush by drinking salt water (I'm going to skip that part) and in the evening you drink a laxative tea. The whole idea is to clean out your body of toxins, especially the colon.
Have any of you ever done it before?
Wish me luck.

good luck Cass!
you are indeed brave and determined
I have not done that.

I'm just contemplating the south beach thing...if I do it, I think it's going to shock the heck out of my body.."what no sugar???!"

Cass I understand a fast of a day or so but your body needss protein to build your internal organs including your heart as it's also muscle. Could you maybe add some sort of protein? I say this because I care. Love Phillipa

That's great!! No, I never did it-but read about it and thought about it. I did a cleanse for only 3 days before. I'm really not comfortable going w/o eating with all the meds and my health now. I've heard such good things about it though. Wow-you went a long time w/o food!! I guess it gets easier after the first 2 days..but I don't think I could ever go 2 whole weeks. See, you have willpower and determination.

RE: whole foods...did you ever go to this site? It's my favorite:

http://www.greensmoothiegirl.com/

And this is a hot pink breakfast smoothie--it is so yummy:

But fresh dates are expensive-but they make it good.

I found that site a few months ago, it got me excited about green smoothies and more healthful eating. I have an old blender-the quality is ok, but on that site they show the Blendtec. I think it would make a good difference. It's $400, but if you got it on sale somewhere, you could probably get it for $300. I think it's worth it if you are going to a whole foods diet. I plan to buy it someday.

Oh-more tips. I read a few times that coconut oil is the best for your health and actually helps with weight loss. Green smoothie lady has it on her site. I got a whole bucket, unrefined for about $40 from here, and it will probably last a year:

Well, sorry if you already know all this stuff. Your getting there. Baby steps. Good luck with your cleanse :))
