How can I have faith in God's word and go

Posted by lynn971 on December 11, 2005, at 19:03:01

through anxiety all at the same time. I know that God's promises are true. I know that the scriptures say that if I have faith as small as a mustard seed, nothing shall be impossible. If I know all of this, why do I have all of this anxiety?

How do I make it stop?

If God would just take this anxiety away from me, I would testify of His goodness everywhere my feet take me. I would do anything He asked of me. I would be His biggest mouth piece.

Dear Lord, please make it stop.

Lynn971, do you have a pdoc and/or therapist you go to? I'm just concerned because I think an anxiety disorder may be a psychological and/or psychiatric problem that can be alleviated with therapy and/or medication. As I wrote you before, when I had depression and anxiety in the past, I prayed all the time for healing, but sometimes I just wouldn't feel better. Hooking up with a good pdoc and therapist have helped me a lot with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. All the best, Lucia

I went to a pdoc once. He put me on zoloft and I could not get in touch with him again. It was not working so I put myself back on lexapro. (Big mistake). My general doc. put me on effexor and buspar. It seems to be working. I still a nervous stomache, but it is getting better.

I have an appt. Thursday with a social worker before I can see the pdoc. I hope this pdoc is good. Maybe all of this stems from a childhood that was filled with verbal and physical abuse. My mom has a chemical imbalance too. So it may be a little of both.

Thanks,
Lynn

Hi Lynn. I'm glad you're able to see another pdoc. I hope that goes well. I think having a good pdoc is really important. Just a note of caution when working with a general practitioner doctor for psychiatric meds. I've had experiences where the doctor or nurse practitioner didn't seem to be the best informed or up to date on the medications and mental illness, and I've heard they don't follow up as well sometimes as they should. I hope you can get a pdoc that you can actually see more than once, maybe regularly!

I know from my own research, reading, and personal experience that mental illness is genetically linked and runs in families. My father has bipolar disorder, and so do I. And yes, childhood difficulties could contribute to psychological issues. Seeing a therapist may help with your anxiety too. I know seeing a therapist and talking about my past and childhood helped me. It's good to have both options I think, a pdoc and therapist, although sometimes they tell me different things and have a different dx! LOL Now that's another story.

Anyways, best of luck to you. Take care, Lucia

Hi Lynn,
I just want you to know that I care too and I am praying for you every day.
I have also struggled with depression and anxiety as have many on this board.
It sounds as though you really do trust God, thats great. What is so hard, is that sometimes He answers our prayers in a different way than we want/expect.
In my own life God did not remove the mental illness problems right away, but He did use it to teach me to come closer to Him through prayer and scripture Then, when I was better, He used that healing to show others His greatness.
Read Psalm 56, especially the last six verses
(8-13)
This supported me a lot in really dark times.

Lynn,

I guess you have to think of it like any other illness..

What if it were a cancer? Or a tumor? or diabetes? Would you still think your faith in God had failed you if you had those things?

When you get sick and throw up, do you think it's your lack of faith?

We often put this burden on ourselve's.. it's not from Him. He is capable of removing anxiety and depression and cancer and diabetes if He chose to, but most of the time, we learn to live "with the thorn in our flesh while seeing that His grace is sufficient."

Just remember, Paul pleaded with God three times to remove his thorn and God's answer was "no." It wasn't a lack of Paul's faith- it was simply God's divine will to allow whatever suffering was necessary to keep Paul at the foot of the throne.

Don't beat yourself up- your faith in Him and His love for you doesn't change.. no matter how you feel or what your rx is.

His grace is sufficient.

(((((hugs and prayers))))

Are you still on meds?

Lynn,
Glad to get your post. To answer your question, no, I am no longer taking any psychiatric medication. For over twenty years, between the ages of 40 and 60, I was on just about every psych med you can name. By God's grace, I was able to SLOWLY taper off the last three meds over a one year+ period; and today I live a very happy fulfilling life.
I will continue to keep you in my prayers GH

I was listening to a minister today and he was saying that about ten years ago he went through the darkest period in his life. He had panic attacks and "burn out." He begged God to heal him, but he said God did it in His timing. The minister has not had a problem now in ten years. That too, was encouraging. He said that God had to deal with him on several issues and then the deliverence came.

Lynn

Hi Lynn,
I'm not a Christian, but I wanted to answer your post anyway... even though it's been a while since you first posted it.
First, from your Bible, God does not ALWAYS take pain away. Sometimes, in the faithful, it serves a purpose. Job suffered a great deal, but remained faithfull and managed still to praise God.
The Apostles, too suffered torture and death, but still through it, praised their God.
Second, We have been blessed with a plethora of healing modalities. Some medicinal, some more spiritual. These are all gifts to us. We need to avail ourselves of them. If we don't, it is like drowning in an ocean waiting for God to save us but ignoring the life ring a short swim away.
I'm glad that you are seeing a Dr. I hope that you are feeling better today. If you aren't though, please don't give up on your God. Perhaps he just wishes you to look for a time longer. Also, please don't wait until you are well to praise your God. Your praises can be efficacious in themselves. I'm certain, that if you go to church, and there is a music ministry there, that you have felt at peace when singing praise. Keep that up.
Remember that Job didn't wait until his travails were over to offer praise and thanks to his God, nor did the apostles and the early saints. Nor should you. Offer thanks, and praise, and wait on God for your miracle.

Hi.

I ask myself the same question almost daily. On my knees, on my hands and knees, crying. In my prayer group at church. I just don't understand how much longer this has to last. It hurts so much and if I am supposed to learn from it, I am ready to learn it and move on. I want my life back. In the few times when I feel well, I feel such a welling up of gratitude to God - and then it gets yanked away again and I am again crawling in the floor, crying.

Someday, maybe I will understand. In the meantime I try so hard just to accept and surrender.

This is the same struggle that I am going through. It's complete torment and definitely from the devil. I have been on my knees many times crying, begging for release. And like Marsha, when I have those clear peaceful moments I am sooooo grateful. The devil must really hate that, ya know?

I think that there are some major battles going on in the heavenly realms. And Satan is doing everything he can to make us lose trust in God (I think of Job and Daniel) .

Anxiety and depression are Satan's most powerful weapons, but we must remind ourselves that "no weapon formed against us will prosper". The level and viciousness of Satan's attack against us is in direct proportion to his fear of how much God loves us and what he knows we can be. Essentially, the punk is trying to take us out b/c he knows we are a threat to him.

It's spiritual warfare and we need to be reminded who our enemy is and that he hates us, but not only that we need to know who our Protector is and how much he loves us!!!! The battle is already won - Satan's main objective is to keep us from knowing we are already victorious over him. Jesus defeated him for eternity at the cross. Thank you, Lord! Praise you!!!

I feel deeply for you guys struggling with anxiety and depression. It is a very difficult battle. I will be praying and believing for deliverance for you and myself. All things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose!
