the Dalai Lama asked

Posted by Jai Narayan on July 19, 2004, at 22:39:48

In his San Jose talk the Dalai Lama asked that we think about inner and outer disarmament. On the inner level we can develop inner peace which extends into our families, society and our country. If our thoughts truly do manifest the material world, we have a tremendous potential to manifest a peaceful world with this focus on inner peace.

Do you REALLY believe that we can achieve world peace?

My god what is the alternative?

I hope to see changes in my lifetime.

I need to work on myself as well...
I need to look for peaceful resolutions in my daily struggles.
I can't just look outside of myself and demand peace from everyone else...

Is peace a state of mind or a state of being?

What a wonderful question.....

I wish that I were as brilliant in my reply.
I have tried to fight war.
I have marched, screamed and just stood dumbfounded as the war continued and the numbers of the dead mounted.
I am stunned by war.
I feel like a deer in the headlights.
So I decided the only person I might (and I stress might) be able to change is me.
Just me.
So I am working on embracing peace within my self. It can't hurt and maybe it will have a ripple effect?
So there's my best reply to your wonderful question.

That was a beautiful, poetic reply, Jai. I enjoyed reading it. I'm going to a health retreat soon which emphasizes physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The retreat is based on Essene teachings. I hope it will help me "embrace peace within my self" as you put it.

have fun at your retreat....Cass :) (nm)
