Dx....low bone density.

Posted by johnj on December 4, 2007, at 19:17:29

Hello:

I am really confused about calcium, vit D and bone density.

I just received a letter stating I have low bone density for my age (42). About two or 3 weeks ago, before I knew this, I started low dose calcium supplements about 300 to 600 mg a day. I cannot eat dairy. I felt something like anxiety in my chest but tried to get over it. It didn't matter if I took it day or night My sleep was worse and I felt weird in the chest. Last Wednesday night I didn't take any and I felt much better. I was so mentally dull and spacey on the calcium not to mention the anxiety.

My blood levels of calcium and magnesium are normal. So I assume I am leaching from my bones? Also, have not had a vitamin D level. I do that soon.

My questions are the following:

1. If I am low in vitamin D could the calcium I take make my blood levels too high and cause the anxiety like symptoms?

2. If my vitamin D levels are ok, what could be going on??

I am not sure the relation between calcium, vit D, etc. so any explanation is appreciated.
Thank you.

johnj

Low bone density is correlated to high salt intake.
