I was thinking of giving St John's a try as an AD

Can anyone recomend a brand that good?

I can't recommend anything from personal experience, since I haven't really tried SJW consistently. However I have heard and read that the Kira brand has been studied and is highly recommended.

This site has a wealth of information about SJW >

Hey Tom

I took kira brand SJW last year for about 5 months. It was very very good.

No side effects and it definately had a postive effect on my mood. I stopped it thinking that it wasn't doing anything, but it was. I think myself and blueberry both had horrible panic attacks after stopping it, so be careful to taper off. And it just shows that it was definately doing something!

I used kira brand from boots. Be warned, its relatively expensive - something like £15 for 30.

There is some confusiong as to the dosing of British kira SJW -- but I think there is something about that on the sjw.org site nolvas provided.

Give it a good 6-8 weeks before assessing its effectiveness.

Unfortunately it is quite subtle, its not like parnate or anything. But it does work quite well. It helps depression and anxiety at the same time. Its the best pysch med I've eve tried. (I don't know why I'm not taking it now in fact! Hmm. I might have to get back on it).

Kind regards

Meri

HBC protocols worked very well for me. The only reason I stopped was because I decided to try Rhodiola with it and the combination was a little too much so I dropped the SJW and the Rhodiola has been doing well since.

good luck
Ten

Kira is a top choice to start with, because it is scientifically stable from one dose to the next and from one batch to the next, and because it was used in clinical studies. Setting all sound scientific reasons aside for a moment, I personally like Kira because it worked amazingly well for me.

But, many brands can be good. You might respond a lot better to one brand than another, for some reason you'll never know, because each brand is different kind of like each type of antidepressant is different. Just because an antidepressant is highly respected doesn't mean it will work for you. And likewise, just because an antidepressant is lowly respected doesn't mean it won't end up being the best thing that ever came into your life.

Bottom line...only a personal trial will tell. Give whatever brand you try a minimum of 2 weeks and aim for 4 weeks. If it is doing a decent job it can continue to get even better past 4 weeks, but at least 4 weeks is enough time to get an idea of whether it is worth investing more time or whether it should be trashed in favor of trying a different one.
