Whats good for glia ?

Posted by linkadge on November 6, 2005, at 20:36:59

So, suppose I decide to do my glia a favor, what sorts of nutrients might help.

Dude, I have no idea. The brain is strained these days. I'll ponder it for ya, though.

DHEA, Centrophenoxine, Deprenyl all 'good' for glial cells one way or another.

Deprenyl may enhance the growth of Glial Cells and may inhibit the ability of Free Radicals to damage Glial Cells.

Centrophenoxine may stimulate the endogenous synthesis of RNA and endogenous Proteins within Glial Cells and may increase the uptake of Glucose into Glial Cells.

etc etc :)

Even Vitamin C can help inhibit Alcohol's ability to damage glia cells.

Centrophenoxine is a Smart Drug that is comprised of two molecules - Diethylaminoethanol (DMAE) and Parachlorphenoxyacetic Acid (PCPA; P-
Chlorophenoxyacetic Acid; half of an Auxin, a plant growth hormone) which is synthetically manufactured.

There are numerous studies indicating it's use in treating Anxiety , ADHD, Confusion, Mood, Memory and Tardive Dyskinesia.

Petkov, V. D., et al. A study of nootropic drugs for anti-anxiety action. Acta Physiol Pharmacol Bulg. 13(4):25-30, 1987.

This study demonstrated that centrophenoxine significantly reduces anxiety as measured by licking activity of rats.

South, J. Lucidril: the anti-aging neuro-energizer. Anti-Aging Bulletin. 4(9):31-39, 2001.

Centrophenoxine results in a significant (60% to 90%) reduction in dyskinetic movements in approximately 66% of tardive dyskinesia patients.

Dean, W. & Morgenthaler, J. Smart Drugs & Nutrients. B & J Publications, Santa Cruz, California, USA. 1990:85-88.

The authors claim that centrophenoxine may be an effective anti-aging therapy.

· Thomas C. Fischer, James Williamson & Bob T Curtis. International Pharmaceuticals: The Latest Drugs Being used to Prevent Aging and Restore Memory. Robert Mason Information Technique, La Brecque, Alderney, Channel Islands, UK. 1997:7-9.

Centrophenoxine exerts various anti-aging effects, including protection of the brain against the free radical damage that is associated with aging.

· Kahn, C. Age-reversing drugs. Longevity. 3(2):38-52, 1990.

Centrophenoxine has shown some anti-aging activity in animal studies.

· Pelton, Ross. Mind Food and Smart Pills. Doubleday, New York, USA, 1989:111-114.

Centrophenoxines reverses some aspects of the aging process.

· Lucidril. International Antiaging Systems Directory. 2(1):18, 1999.

Centrophenoxine retards the aging process in the brain.

I took centrophenoxine only once. It wouldn't be for everyone (me). Pretty strong. I ended up feeling quite rattled.
What is/are glia? Not the glia(?), but glia?

Hi Link, what I meant was I didn't know if glia referred to a thing or a quality or whatever else. I'd imagined that there was a glia and then I thought, well maybe not. Then again glia sounds plural.

I was wondering what glia referred to, being too lazy to look it up.

Here's the text book version:

Glial cells, commonly called neuroglia or simply glia, are non-neuronal cells that provide support and nutrition, maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and participate in signal transmission in the nervous system. In the human brain, glia are estimated to outnumber neurons by as much as 50 to 1.

Traditionally glia are thought to lack certain features of neurons. For example, glia are not believed to have chemical synapses, nor do they generate action potentials or release neurotransmitters.
