Bottled water and depression..

Posted by mystery road on October 25, 2005, at 14:26:53

Although I've read the studies on calcium possibly causing depression in some people, I've never really had any noticeable bad effects from taking cal citrate, either during the day or at night to help with sleep..Since I work in an organic food market, I drink several different brands of mineral waters throughout the week..One in particular, Smart Water, I'm thinking might be the cause of some deep dark depressions including hopelessness, crying, and suicidal thoughts..I've kind of pin pointed it as I get this way when drinking this water, and what seems to happen very quickly..Is this possible?..The water claims to be impurity free with added electrolytes: Calcium chloride, Mag chloride and potassium bicarbonate..I'm starting to feel that a lot of these mineral waters can be dangerous to us depressives..Anybody feel this way?..Maybe distilled water is the only way to go for me..

Does it have salt as well? this is the most important electrolyte. Also, the proportions must be perfect for absorbption. Check out Recuperat-ion . It is from spain. It works great for depression.

The problems result from something called an ion channelopathy, probably at one of the ABC family receptors that works with tryptphan. You need the correct mineral salts in the correct proportions.

Lunesta..

You've tried this water for depression?..Has it helped you?..I think a lot of the water I drink has an effect on my mood, especially the high mineral waters..

If the water you drink has carbon dioxide, I think it might make your body more acidic, which may have negative consequences to overall health.

Does the bottle label (or e.g. the manufacturers home page) tell the contents? If so, you could calculate the Ca/Mg/K/etc. amounts and ratios and compare them to RDAs?

If that's what it's called. Anyone know the stuff and has an opinion? You can get machines here that make it, so it comes out of the sink, my daughter has just put on the most appalling music, hard core I believe, they try to outrage their parents by avoiding all drugs, I can't think.

I find Evian water picks me up all over and lifts a bit of mild depression too.
I think its the bicarbonates level.

That counteracts the chlorids I suspect. May be wher your problem is.. high chloride levels. My blood chloride levels are highish (but still within normal ).

Now if you are having problems with water with chlorides .. maybe one with higher bicarbonates is worth a try?

Its exxy though

Actually, very interesting, someone I once knew who was studying medicine said that the plastic bottles- the hard clear plastic type used in the US- leach something into the water. She claimed Europeans preferred glass bottles. Plausable? Worth an experiment maybe, to try only glass bottles for a spell and see if there is a detectable difference?
