Mr Piano Man,

I was curious as to what the strengh is for the herbal remedies you are taking? Why is it that they work so well? I was looking online and there seems to be a "testosterone aisle" at GNC and others, are they the same, or what is the deal with that?

thank you for your time,

I take 2 Twinlab 625mg capsules (standardized to minimum 20% steroidal saponins) of the Tribulus Terrestris. The product is called Tribulus Fuel.
I take 1 GNC 1000mg capsule of a Damiana Leaf Extract.

The reason you might see Tribulus in the "Testosterone" section, is because it is somewhat popular among weightlifters and other athletes. Supposedly, it increases your body's natural production of Testosterone. Steroids and such make the bodys natural production of T shut down. Trib doesn't do this though. Anyways, from what I've read, most guys don't really think it helps much with muscle mass or strength gains, but they do notice a markedly increased libido and harder erections.

I heard that tribulus caused increased production of DHEA. Anyone know if it's that or testosterone?

So what you are saying is that steroids are somewhat in collaboration of this herb? I personally dont think people need to take steroids because it is very easy to get cancer, as demonstrated in professional sports, and in general with people who take it (testosterones, estrogen)...

Can someone please clarify all this nomenclature and tell me if I should stay away from the herbal "remedies" because I am not sold on it.

Thank you and I know this is for opinions only.

No, I wondered if tribulus caused the body to increase production of DHEA rather than of testosterone. Nothing to do with hormonal supplementation or anything like that.

Do you know if tribulus is supposed to help with females as well?

It is used by women, and if it increased production of either DHEA or testosterone would have an anabolic and prolibido effect. But I knew a woman who took it for a while and she didn't notice anything.

Just a warning for any considering taking Tribulus- a common side effect is acne when you first start taking it. For me it went away quickly and was really mild. When I tried DHEA, it had the same effect, except much worse.

Just to clarify, Trib is NOT like a steroid or prohormone. It supposedly increases the body's natural testosterone by stimulating Leydig cells (I think). Steroids or Testosterone Replacement provide so much testosterone that the body compensates by shutting down the natural production (to maintain homeostasis). This will (theoretically) not happen with Tribulus. Then again, studies have given mixed results about Trib's androgenic properties.

Here's a few studies I pulled off of Entrez PubMed:

Aphrodisiac properties of Tribulus Terrestris extract (Protodioscin) in normal and castrated rats.
