feverfew + ginger

Posted by linkadge on July 31, 2005, at 23:03:49

I am trying a combination of feverfew and ginger, to block some of the unwanted side effects of the SSRI citalopram.

Together, the two herbs should block the 5-ht3 and 5-ht2a/b receptors.

Does anyone know the long term safety of these herbs ?

Hi Link,

Well, my instinct is that you can have all the ginger you want as its used all the time in Eastern cooking (and western cooking for that matter). I've actually been drinking ginger beer in a half hearted attempt to minimise the nausea of celexa/cipramil withdrawal myself!

As for feverfew, I think this should be used with more caution - I think its got some potent compounds in the plant, as before modern medicine it was used to bring fevers down, hence the name.

Unfortunately I have my herbal books packed away otherwise I could be more helpful! I guess the net/wikipedia might be of some use???
