Hi Meri-Tuuli..

I recently posted something about Siberian Ginsing back over on the meds board.....

Some others here will hopefully be able to give you a more detailed description of ginseng if thats what you're looking for...but I'll do my best to explain what it does/did for me..

I used to take a alot of it. I tried Korean, Siberian, Manchurian and Red Chinese Ginseng. I personally liked the siberian one the best. I've read afew of your posts I think your from the UK right?...If so you can buy all this in Holland and Barrett.

Its basically an aphrodisiac to be honest and a pretty good one at that! ;-) Seriously it does kind of increase libdo and make you think about sex quite abit..well it did me anyway! Its a natural substance from what I know taken from the root of a plant. The different names siberian, korean etc simply relect where it has been produced from. Siberian ginseng isn't actually "real" ginseng but its very closely related to ginseng from what i know.

They call it an 'adaptogen' substance simply because it allows your body to adapt naturally to stress and coping etc.. I found siberian ginseng kinda made me feeling chilled out so to speak but also have me energy at the same time. Improved concentration.

The korean one used to stimualate me alittle too much and gave me insomnia. But I did like taking this mixture from holland and barrett that was called high strenth complex ginseng. It had korean, siberian, manchurian and red chinese all in one capsule. Definately boosted the sex drive! The one I mainly used though was plain Siberian.

Only warning I'd say about it is...that from what I know you shouldn't take it with MAOI type anti depressants I think. Also the reason why I do not use it anymore - i'm, bipolar and it made my mood go alittle too high so it was not a very good idea to be taking lonterm. I dont use it anymore at all now. Also you should really have breaks from it now and then like very 8 weeks or so.

Hope that helps..

Kind regards

Nick

Ps Meri-Tuuli is Finnish right?...I used to live with some people from Finland for afew months when i lived out in Gran Canaria :-)

Hello Nick!

Yep you guessed it, I'm from the UK, and right again, my family is from Finland!

Well, you've cleared something up for me - my father has a serious amount of ginseng around his house, like all these glass jars with these roots in them. They look abit strange! He had a korean wife, now he's got a russian wife.....my mother was wife #2 and is finnish so he's bit of a womaniser with the foreign ladies! Anyway he must have got into the ginseng to help in 'that' department when he was with the korean wife. I always thought the ginseng was abit odd, and he wouldn't really explain it.

Anyway I might try some myself - or at least have a look at it in H&B. I'm on a NARI at the moment so it might not be a good idea to combine the two, because I'm already finding the NARI (reboxetine) pretty energising, and I'm still adjusting to getting my feelings/drive back after being on an SSRI!

Thanks for the info.

Take care,
Meri-Tuuli
