Supplements to help withdrawal

Posted by traveler on July 1, 2004, at 12:02:45

Greetings
I am currently trying to withdraw from Klonopin. Are there any supplements that will help in this process? I take klonopin to help me sleep at night, and since I am going to try and get pregnant soon - I need to stop taking it. ANy advice on what to take for sleep would be appreciated as well.
thank you

When I weaned off Klonopin, I used:

Fish Oil
Evening Primrose Oil
Bilberry
Cal/Mag tablets
Multi Vit and Mineral tab

Didn't megadose, just the recommended package instructions. I didn't really have difficulties with weaning or coming off. Sleep wasn't a problem for me, except on rare occ. I did find the Bilberry very calming and would throw in an extra dose for those rare times. The Cal/Mag tended to make me a little drowsy, also.

Good luck on the baby plans. Don't forget your Folic Acid.

Thank you for the help. What does bilberry do?
I am sure everyone has experienced this love hate relationships with ADs and Benzos. It is so great initially, then when you want to try living without - it becomes such a challenge.

Anyone elses advise on calming and sleep enhancing supplements (that really work) would be much appreciated.

Bilberry is actually a suppliment for vision help for night blindness. Someone here talked about the calming effect it seem to have with them. After I researched it a bit, I decided to give it a whirl as it didn't seem to have any real toxic effects to be concerned with and it was cheap. Sure enough, I, too, found it to be calming. Some sources do talk about it's use for anxiety states.

Have you tried Benadryl for sleep? Mixing it with a high dose of K may not be a good idea but if you're down to a low dose of K, it might be something to think about. Of course, some folks can become dependent on that, too. There's never an easy answer, it seems.

Hope you work it out.
