NADH, anxiety/social phobia? anyone taken this?

Posted by clairey on December 7, 2003, at 9:34:37

Hello
i have been reading a great deal on the supplement NADH/ENADA.
It is said to be good with all the brain chemicals (sorry im no good at this stuff)
Especially dopamine, which they say plays a big part in social anxiety (which i get).

Has anyone taken this?
Any good or bad effects you noticed?

Thanks for your help!

NADH... and coenzymated B-complex? Larry?

I know Larry Hoover and Ron Hill have taken/are taking NADH, but not for your reasons. If you do a google dr-bob.org search you will find plaenty of posts on it.

As long as we are talking about B vitamins... Larry, could you take a glance at this Source Naturals Coenzymated B-complex product for me?

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/browse/sku_detail.jhtml?SkuID=4263&BreadCrumbType=SearchResult

I'm not so familar with the activated forms of the B vitamins (esp. B12 = DIBENCOZIDE?). Does this look like something worth giving a try for activation/stress resistance?

I am going to give ENADA NADH a whirl soon. I was thinking this might be a good complement to it if taken sparingly.

NAD or non-ENADA NADH in the Source Naturals?

Hmmmm, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide is one of the forms of B3 listed as being present in the Source Naturals complex (10 mg per two tablets).

It's not ENADA, though? Just NAD rather than NADH?

I really can't say if the extra expense is worthwhile or not....I'm not a fan of fancy supplements in general...Some people do better with e.g. P5P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) than simple pyridoxine, but such cases tend to be exceptions, IMHO.

The Enada is designed to avoid digestion in the stomach, so it is absorbed "whole"....I suspect it's merely enteric coated... Oral NAD will decompose to adenosine and nicotinic acid....no benefit over food or B3 supps, IMHO.

I would like to add something....from a different realm of "being" than the purely cognitive, where I was when I first answered you...if your intuition guides you towards this stuff (and you can afford it....blah blah), then I'd go for it. If you do, please report on your experience with it.

bit on NAD V NADH here
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/20031204/msgs/288520.html

P5P B6 is thought more likely to be beneficial to women over 40 who sometimes don't convert B6 as well as desired for their needs

The B12 co-enZ form is the other one tp methylcobalamin.. sorry I've forgotten, but it has different functions to methylcobabalmin

I looked at this product before and it did look cost effective against buying NADH and P5P ..but I doubt if a lot of the coenz forms are needed and you are not getting the complete breakdown of te vitamins...like only one coenz form of B12.

As Lar said, if you give it a go let us all know

NADH for GAD/SP? » clairey

Sorry, I feel like a thread hijacker here.

I'm afraid most of the NADH folks are going to turn out to be atypical depressives or CFS-sufferers rather than GAD/SPs, so I think you won't get much relevant feedback.

To the extent that NADH is claimed to boost neurotransmitter synthesis I would say it is at least worth a shot.

Thanks, but already have seen that article :-) (nm) » tealady

And I'm not feeling anything yet.

Anyone got an idea of how much longer I should keep taking it before concluding this isn't going to do anything for me?
