medhed has been blocked and I don't feel it's right for us to be talking to him or about him when he cannot answer back, please...

I must have missed it. I assumed Dr. Bob had skipped the Admin board.

I'm a forthright person, I mean what I say, or what I ask, I don't disguise my intentions. If I wish to be unkind I will be. Perhaps your idea of what is "nice" and mine are different. I was simply asking "How necessary was that?" It's a question, if you read it as not being "nice" then it's all yours.

Dr. Bob has blocked Medhead previously because he had requested him to stick to "support and education" I didn't want him to get blocked again, because as I stated above, I enjoy his posts. Hence "How necessary was that?"

I sounded pretty harsh there, sorry. I've always associated being told to "be nice" or "Act nice" with a performance adults demand of children, especially little girls, that's my problem, and I reacted to that.

I left that subject heading there because I like it so much I'd like to see it more often in the world. ; )

I apologize for being so cranky and sanctimonious with you. I know I'm blunt, but unfairness and gratuitous nastiness aren't generally part of my character, unless it seems, someone accuses me of not being fair, in which case I've discovered, I become a real b*tch. :)

and I did accuse you of that. Not intentionally, but by trying to protect medhed (and no, I guess I shouldn't have done that either because he doesn't want me to care), I hurt YOU.

And I'm very sorry.... I guess I get b*tchy, too when I've been put down and my prickliness came out in the way I worded my post- it came our accusatorily and I hadn't meant it that way...

I just thought that probably people didn't know he was blocked.... I worded it very wrong and you have my heartful apologies...I HATE it when people do to me what I did to you.....

{I am grovelling by keeping the subject heading the same just for you ;) }

Hmm, maybe that's one reason posters sometimes have a strong reaction to being asked to be civil?

I think that's probably likely, but for me it's the word "nice" that actually causes the strong reaction, being asked to be civil doesn't make me feel as patronized.

What I was trying to say was.. when I'm reminded to be civil, by you or another poster I'm being reminded of the rules, which are already laid out, and I'm fine with that, I'm also fine with a suggestion as to why something might be considered hurtful. However, If someone tells me to be "nice" I feel as if
1 I'm being told to "play pretty"
2. They want me to act within their definition of what is acceptable, when, my opinion is as valid

Please Follow Civility Guidelines, or even Please Follow Board Guidelines would be preferable to Please Be Civil. Please Be Civil implies that someone has done something objectively, globally, wrong, while Please Follow Board Guidelines merely points out a lack of adherence of behavior to the rules we agreed to obey.

(Well, sometimes I'd like to see some way stronger wording than Please Be Civil. But I digress.)

On the other hand, PBC is well esconced in board culture and PFBG wouldn't have the same ring. :)

never....

I don't feel good inside when I hurt others, but to stop being human???

Don't think I'm up to the task.... ;-)

(why does everyone else's "wink face" look better than mine??? Mine looks funny... what am I doing wrong?? Hmmm.. I hit submit, looked at it on Dr. Bob's board and it looks fine... wonder why it looks funny on MY computer???)

Giggle

Oh and BTW, that entire rant to Bob was not inspired by your one single "Please be nice" believe it or not *gasp*! I've been asked (told) that before. It's definitely a multiple baggage word with me.

Dinah,
You wrote something like,[...please follow the board guidlines...] would be better than,[...please be civil...].
