Is It Appropriate to Redirect to Another Board?

Posted by iris2 on September 17, 2004, at 8:47:04

I myself have been rebuked, by Dr Bob, a couple of times for posting on psycho-babble things that were more appropriate on other boards.

A couple of times I suggested to people that they post on "social" instead of psycho-babble.
I saw that Dr Bob went ahead (it happened to be a time I had suggested it) and redirected the post to social.

All this is my long way of asking if it is not too presumptuous to go ahead and redirect a post to another board when answering it?

I did it once and I am feeling guilty about it. I think I should apologise to the poster. What do you all think is the correct procedure?

Irene

I think that by Babblers redirecting when appropriate it does take the burden off of Dr Bob, who isn't able to monitor the boards at all time.

My interpreatation is that if a thread has evolved to be more about a general support issue rather than a medication isse, it's a good thing to redirect. I don't think that apologies are necessary, tho' I always post that I am redirecting a thread so people don't get lost.

In the case of the discussion above regarding the Faith board, I would leave the decision in Dr Bob's hands.

Those are my 2 cents.

Try to think of them as reminders, not a rebukes? :-)

Not at all, it's your reply, it's up to you where to post it. If you do redirect it to another board, however, you might also want to post a brief note to the original board letting the original poster know you did that, since they might not see your reply otherwise.

It sure does, there are more off-topic posts these days than uncivil ones...
