Meth brain recovery

Posted by amd on August 10, 2022, at 13:47:10

I smoked some methamphetamine last night and am now extremely worried Ive done permanent damage to my brain and will never recover. Is this a possibility? Im having a lot of anxiety and sadness, like Ive ruined my life. I am never touching that stuff again.

Having worked with meth users, and lots of people using crack and heroin, the brain damage dilemma debate is quite varied, and true damage seems to be from long term, chronic use. Plus, our brains are very flexible. Diet and meditation help greatly, as well as full cardio workouts. I have a friend who beat heroin by turning to intense off road dirt biking. Trust me, I used to think that was bullcrap, but am forever in recovery. I use amphetamine everyday for my ADD, and teach college courses year after year. I don't think mild cannabis use causes any problems.

Have a little faith..and I don't mean that in a smartass way :) lol...

Yea, I agree, if you only did it one night, or infrequently I wouldn't worry about brain damage....especially the day after. You're likely dealing w/ acute withdrawl/anxiety/depression but that'll pass.

Could try some melatonin maybe per a 2021 study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34653556/

Try to stay positive and see how you feel in a few days/week.

methamphetamine damage usally happens after prolonged use, your nuerotransmitters right now are probly low and messed up, but there should not be permeant damage. M-amphatmine is potent dopamine releaser, so when sites of dopaminw have been burned out by being forced to release dopamine, that's whenn they die. A one time, or couple time use, defeintly should not cause permeant damae.

Appreciate the responses all. After a week my mind seems to be settling back into a normal state. I got a couple workouts in, read a book, I'm thinking relatively clearly, and will _not_ make the mistake of partaking in that particular recreational activity again. I'll still to wine, thank-you-very-much. You all definitely helped me through a tough week where I felt lost and panicked, and I thank you for that sincerely.

After three months clean Im back where I started. Smoked some on Monday night and have been depressed beyond what I can ever remember, completely unable to function, and feel life is over. Even worse is I had so much time under my belt. I just want to snap out of this. I feel that Im holding on by a thread to everything in my life and, essentially, disabled. Im so angry I threw my life away in one six hour binge.

This is the end of the thread.
