Generic Wellbutrin Rash

Posted by Amy Libertine on October 11, 2018, at 0:39:58

My doctor had me begin the generic Buproprion XL 150mg to accompany my 150mg of Zoloft. Last year Id had a few major life stressors, consecutively, and was diagnosed with PTSD. The Wellbutrin was added to the mix to give me extra energy/confidence, as I had become housebound.

Day 20 of the generic, I broke out in a horrible rash, itchy rash. Nothing Ive ever felt before.

The medication worked so well, and I felt so amazing, I asked my doctor to special order me the name brand, in a last stitch effort to stay on the drug. Everything was just clear, I was able to think straight again. I felt at peace with everything that had happened. I cried, a lot, and it was such a release of emotions that it felt great. My responses, for lack of term, were normal. I felt as thought I was finally healing.

I was wondering if anyone else had a success switching from generic to name brand to avoid an allergic reaction.

My second part question is, does any have suggestions on the next route if the name brand doesnt work ? Obviously my doctor has the final say, but I like to walk into appointments as educated as possible.

Just like the brand and gneric you are taking are different every generic brand is different.

Which generic brand of Wellbutrin were you taking that gave you the rash? If you call other pharmacies and ask them what generic brand they carry you could definitely try different one. Wellbutrin is kinda notoriot for having ineffective generics out there

Search sites like medchat.com for Wellbutrin generic and you may find others suggesting X brand worked and definitely don't take Y. (Names like Mylan, Zydus, Teva, etc are generic makers).

So you have more than 2 options. I'd try to refill at a different pharmacy that has Brand you can find some support for on forums. Sadly this site hasnt been the best for me in that regard. Medschat and Facebook groups I have an anonymous account for are usually more tuned in to one drug.

Good luck!!

maybe a stimulant? ritalin, focalin...I guess an amphetamine...provigil or nuvigil, if you have good insurance. i dont know of any other antidepressant that might provide a bit of lift without too much apathy like wellbutrin can.

I began the brand name, and I am now wrapping up day 3...

So far no issues. No hives.. no itchy.. so swelling..

I am taking it along with Zyrtec. The original rash was so horrible, I have a feeling if I was going to break out again, the Zyrtec would only minimize it, not completely keep it away.

Is it safe to say Im in the clear? From what Ive read, my body would have gained a sensitivity, and the reaction would not be delayed as it was the first time... does that sound about right ?

I've found Ritalin to be my new magic bullet! At 1st I took 5mg day. Then my doc upped to 10mg daily. Its unusual for a spyco-stim. At 1st I had a mild stimulant effect. Great, I thought until is pooped out, so I thought!
WRONG!
Withing 2 weeks it came back. But instead of a simple stimulant effect I now get good energ all day every day!
Funny thing is that when I went to my doc for Ritalin his words were "so, you dont want to try D-amphetamin?" I couldn'r believe he what he was offering!
Andway I said no to amphetamine as I've bee an amphetamine in the past.
My guess is that amphetamine may cause some euphoria at least at the start. Ritilin isn't like that at all. You may get a feel-good factor but for me its helped put up with heaps of of stress (I've just moved abode). Ritilin got me in gear too to find a much needed new place to live. You might chat a bit more that usual but hey, if it makes you better then the hell with 'em right ;)
Modafinil is pathetic IMO. You will be let down. A much better nootropic is Oxiracetam. (take CDP with it). Both are freely available on like.

Wow that is a lot of amazing information, thank you!

I had a parent pass away from cancer, but not before the 2 years of hell dealing with the cancer. It was exhausting and completely drained me of life. Nothing ever went as planned. We never received positive news. The constant stress of being in a life or death limbo just really screwed me up.

The Wellbutrin makes me feel like I did before anything happened. When I first felt it kick in, my thought was whoa, I dont have to work to keep my eyes open? Because the depression was so bad, just being awake was too difficult.

Im really happy I was able to find Wellbutrin... Im still worried, even though Im on day 4, Ill still have another delayed allergic reaction. Thank you for all the information... its important to remind myself that even if everything with my plan A goes to sh*t, Ill have a plan B, plan C, plan D... etc.

Hi.

I am glad to see that you are responding so well to Ritalin.

May I ask how you take it and at what dosage? How long did it take for Ritalin to produce a stable improvement?

Thanks.

It may be that your allergic reaction was due to a constituent of the binders and fillers, and not to the drug itself. These formulas differ according to manufacturers. I hope your current treatment is free of complications.
