package arrived

Posted by linkadge on March 20, 2018, at 16:37:33

My medical cannabis package arrived.

I started with one drop of the CBD predominant product. It could be placebo, but I noticed some initial giggles (being honest) followed by mild sedation / reduction in anxiety.

So far, no adverse reactions.

I have a higher THC product which I will try Friday.

I'll keep you informed. Again, I'm mainly looking for some anxiety reduction, improvement in sleep / appetite.

I started with a low dose (1 drop yesterday and 2 drops today of the CBD oil). I noticed some mild sedation (not unpleasant). I'm trying to intoduce it slowly.

I will try the higher THC oil closer to the weekend (just incase there is a negative reaction).

We use CBD oil in our home for nervousness, pain and mood. It is helpful. But one drop? We started with a half dropper. But we really need a whole dropper and maybe another one a couple hours later. Everyone is different though.

In my previous babble days I probably would have had to start with one drop also because I was so darn sensitive to everything. That's part of the lyme spectrum, the sensitivity thing is lyme. Treatment with antibiotics pretty much got rid of that aspect of my health problems and now I am not nearly so sensitive to things anymore.

CBD oil should be a first-line medication as far as I am concerned.

Doctors should not be writing prescriptions for anything until they have exhausted other common sense effective things such as CBD, gluten free meals, low sugar, and dense nutrient intake. That is my opinion. Emergency situations are of course different.

I know two people who were lifelong psych patients including being institutionalized for a time. They both run normal lives now. The only thing that changed is they consume large amounts of marijuana. They developed a tolerance so they don't get high, they don't get red, glass eyes, they just get their functional lives back.

Hey Blueberry,

This is a fairly concentrated extract. It also has some THC in it, so I wanted to go slow.

I had very good sleep last night. This was at about 1mg of CBD and 1mg of THC. I took the THC for the first time yesterday. I definitely noticed this.

Did you feel different apart from the improved sleep?

The CBD effect was mild and certainly different from the THC.

The THC had a few effects. Firstly, it slowed down my thinking. It seems to have some anti-inflammatory effects (feels a bit like taking an aspirin - reduced headache etc). I noticed some visual effects (tunnel vision, as well as seeming accentuation of patterns). Also, there was a feeling that familiar scenes / objects looked more unfamiliar / interesting. The first day, I noticed some mood elevation, the second day it felt more like a mood stabilizer.

I also had a very breif moment, where it felt like my brain 'reset'. It felt like the middle of my brain cleared out. To be honest, it felt like the initial stages of a buspirone dose (i.e. supression of serotonin firing via 5-ht1a autoreceptors). I.e. the background noise stopped and reduced self / other boundries.

Mind you, this is on low doses 1-2mg of THC.

Supposedly the CB1 receptors affect mood / appetite / sleep and the CB2 receptors have effects on pain / inflammation.

It is my opinion that the marijuana plant, and all of the chemicals in it, is maybe one of the most beneficial plants for a wide spectrum of syndromes and diseases. It is dramatically under-utilized.

Clinical studies show that there is an estimated 15% of the population that has a certain gene making them susceptible to bad reactions to cannabis - these are the people where you hear reports of marijuana causing psychosis or depression.

But for the other 85%, I think we are only at the beginning of a discovery process with cannabis as to the vast medical benefits it has.

There are so many anecdotal stories. My own story - one year into Lyme treatment I had zero progress in mood - all that changed rapidly as soon as I started smoking 1 joint a night for the nausea that the antibiotics were causing. I smoked for the munchies! But in addition to that I experience amazing side effects - the antibiotics started really working, mood brightened fast, required longer treatment to hold it, ups and downs - the beginning of TRUE improvement in my life began with the introduction of marijuana for nausea. :-)

It is such a high potential thing that I believe patients who live in non-legal states should consider moving to a legal one. It is just too good of an integrative tool to not have.

Marijuana is improving or curing psychiatric issues, sleep issues, gastrointestinal issues, inflammation issues, infection issues, cancer issues, and more. I think, however, as with all plant therapies, it is the synergy of an integrated program, not single isolated things, which dramatically raises the potential for real long lasting improvement - in other words it should be one of several key players in a protocol, but not a majority player. imo

Hi Blueberry,

Thanks for the feedback.

Its very interesting to read some of the interactions between the endocannabinoid system and traditional mood regulating systems.

There is a lot of overlap between serotonin and cannabinoid receptors.

I read one study, where the antidepressant effect of many (but not all) antidepressants is blocked by cannabinoid receptor antagonists.

That's really interesting Link. Thanks for the update.

THC seems to have an exceptionally variable effect on mood. Do you notice any negative effects?

Hi Ed,

Perhaps there is a bit of irritability. Otherwise, I am not noticing any negatives. It *really* slows my brain down. I do notice a bit of a 'trip' in the sense that for a very brief moment, I feel like I have left my body (or am everywhere). Other than that, I am more hungry, sleep better and seemingly have much less anhedonia.

Not sure yet..

However a 2:1 ratio CBD:THC seems to be working.

The THC by itself was a bit strong. The CBD by itself didn't do too much.

That sounds very encouraging.

What aspects of your improvements do you think THC contributes most to?

Hey Scott,

It's really difficult to say. I am noticing a lot less mental and physical pain. Also negative thoughts / memories are not as immediate.

I am also able to get a 'break' from my brain.

It strangely feels more like a mood stabilizer than a stimulant, sedative or antidepressant. A lot more agreeable than lithium, however.

Hi Ed,

It's difficult to say for sure. However, the CBD does seem to have an anti-anxiety effect without the other effects of THC. In that sense, it seems to take the edge off the THC.

However, after about a week, I am not noticing any of the negative effects of THC (i.e. no anxiogenic reaction or visual changes).

Linkadge,

How is it going with the CBD:THC 2:1? Have you found any psychiatric medications to react with it? So hope that it is going well for you,

Hi Mogger,

Thanks for asking. The 2nd week has been a bit 'rockier', but perhaps in a good way.

I noticed a bit more irritability cropping up - usually something I see with higher dose of effexor. I felt like my effexor dose had been increased (was noticing some palpititions).

This week I'm going to go off the effexor (only on 37.5mg) (could be a great idea or a terrible one, I don't know).

I feel that the effexor (for some reason) is not mixing well with the THC.

This week, I'm going to try:

THC + CBD
mirtazapine
lithium

My hope is that, if CBD + THC provides a effect on anxiety, then I won't need the effexor (taking is mostly for anxiety).
