thyroid symptoms?

Posted by Shelley on October 6, 2016, at 16:44:16

Hi,

I suffer from schizoaffective disorder and from an undiagnosed thyroid condition which began initially as hyperthyroidism many years ago and ended up as years of hypo. For many years I have been suffering from severe fatigue, heaviness, slowness, depression, brain fog and feeling like a "zombie" .

Every several years I have a bout of what seems to be elevated thyroid levels, lasting about a month or so. During that time my gland is tender to the touch, I lose weight, feel more energetic and everything is suddenly so sharp, clear, overwhelming and stressful. Conflicts I had decades ago as a teen seem to be occuring right now in their original form. It is like being thrown back into another era.

I was wondering if anyone suffering from thyroid problems has experienced this and if it can all be explained by the hormonal changes. The episodes are triggered by very specific stressful experiences of the same kind every time.

I am confused. Can elevated thyroid activity result in such symptoms?

Thank you in advance.

If undiagnosed then you are not sure if indeed you do have thyroid issues? Have you seen and endocrinologist? Or have you had a full thyroid panel done? This would should weather you do or do not have one. Simple blood test. Any doctor like an internist, ob-gyn, gp can order this blood test for you. Phillipa

Thanks, Phillipa.

My blood tests have been indicating hypo for years but my physician apparently thinks that as long as my TSH is below 10 there can't be a problem.

Shelly that is ridiculous as my endo keeps mine between 1-2. Values have changed means you are very hypothyroid. Get another doc or see an endocrinologist. Google values. Phillipa
