Does Vraylar aggravate or help anxiety?

Posted by mogger on May 12, 2016, at 19:27:55

Just curious as it I have seen some reviews of two people saying they don't need their benzo with Vraylar. Has anyone had some anti or pro anxiety effect from Vraylar? Thank you,

mogger

Hello,

This doesn't talk specifically about anxiety but I thought you may want to have a look. I'll post again if I find anything regarding anxiety with Vraylar.

Looks like anxiety can be a side effect.

Good luck :)

"In short term clinical trials extrapyramidal effects, sedation, akathisia, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, anxiety, and constipation were observed. One review characterized the frequency of these events as "not greatly different from that seen in patient treated with placebo"

In reviewing this more closely it looks like anxiety is probably not a side effect.

I think neuroleptics/tranquilizers can reduce anxiety in a lot of people. If you google it, you'll see trials on just about any neuroleptic for various anxiety disorders.

Problem is...akathisia is always an issue. Abilify has a reputation for causing akathisia, but...I personally experienced akathisia on the other atypicals, but not on Abilify. I would imagine Vraylar would be somewhat similar...some people/patients get akathisia from D2 partial agonists but do OK with more traditional AP/AAP drugs, while another group probably tolerates the D2 partial agonists much better than the other options.

Plus...at this point, the data isn't there for anybody to tell you one way or another. Other people/patients can tell you their experiences, but...the available data is mostly company sponsored and not all that long term. Kinda like when Abilify came out they said it would not cause any weight gain, and now that its generic docs will admit it can cause weight gain.

Good luck!

I had to abort my trial of Vraylar after 4 days at 3.0 mg/day. It made my depression much worse. Since Vraylar and its active metabolites have half-lives of 1-3 weeks, I didn't want to risk feeling worse for weeks on end. As it is, I took my last dose a week ago, and I am only now feeling better. It will probably be another week before I no long feel the negative effects of Vraylar.

I might try to switch out Abilfy for Reluxti in order to gain a more potent antidepressant effect. I will rely on my doctor's guidance regarding Reluxti, as he has been using it on his patients.

Glad you are starting to feel better Scott. How unfortunate the effects last this long. Heard very good things about Rexulti and I do hope it works for you,

Thank you, Jeroen.

So far, we have two people that I know of that have tried cariprazine. My experience, of course, has been very negative, while that of Phiddipus has been very positive.

All I can say is that there have been no medications that have made me feel worse in the beginning and went on to make me feel better. Within 4 days, I felt terrible. Once I recognized the degree to which cariprazine was exacerbating my depression, it became imperative that I discontinue it as soon as possible. As it is, I still have some residual negative effects a week after discontinuation. This is because the combined half-lives of cariprazine and its active metabolites is 1-3 weeks. That's longer than Prozac.

If I still feel the need to look for a replacement for Abilify, it will be Rexulti. I won't be making any changes for several weeks, though.

I wonder how Rexulti is for anxiety. Does anyone have a link or know of any new medications that are coming out soon?
