Parnate maximum safety dose

Posted by paulb on January 2, 2016, at 19:14:25

HI

In the post above mine a few there is talk of going as high as 200mg with parnate. I have researched the net and there does seem to be some general consensus that if this is done carefully theres no reason it cant be done for people with treatment resistant mood disorders. Whats your view?

Have you been as high as 80 mg/day yet? If not, I would recommend you try that first before trying a high-dosage strategy.

I would not take 200 mg/day or greater. I don't think you should target a dosage any higher than 120 mg/day to start with.

You need to be careful with Parnate. There is a tendency towards dosage escalation. With each dosage increase, you might feel a brief burst of energy. This is not a true antidepressant effect. This is most likely due to the amphetamine-like effects Parnate has. You will need to be patient and give each dosage a few weeks to work before increasing. If you find yourself sleeping all day, have confusion, muscle jerks, or speech difficulties, the dosage might be too high.

Ive been up to 60mg Parnate and 75mg Nardil. The parnate was more stimulating although i found little benefit from nardil probably because the dose was increased to 75mg very slowly. pb

I don't know anything about MAOI drugs, but...wouldn't you be better off keeping your dose in the more normal range and using something to augment it?

Yes that certainly something ive considered. There is a medicine called Modafinil which could mean going no more than the RDA of 60mg of parnate. I pretty sure think wellbutrin cannot be used with an MAOI as that would almost certainly cause a hypoertensive reaction but it could be an alternative to Parnate instead. I dont know it just doesnt sound so potent as parnate. Other than that i dont know of any other uncontrolled meds i.e as opposed to d-amphetamine or ritalin. PB

When I first started Parnate, I upped my dose on my own one day to 130mg. My BP jumped to 254/165. I refused to go to the ER because I didn't want my doctor to take me off of it. Many people on this sight advised me (formerly just Peanut) to not do it, but I did it anyway. i am now on 90mg with no issues.

I am also safely on Aplenzin, which is Wellbutrin with a different salt. Wellbutrin is bupropion hydroclhoride while apelenzin is bupropion hydrobromide, but they operate the same. I would talk to a progressive doc about adding the Wellbutrin. I was greatly helped by Aplenzin with no negative effects.

Hi, I took 100 mg for many months before getting off and I'm still alive to talk about it.
