It's not a good idea to combine them.

Then you have never been around severe, low-bottom alcoholics.

Are you prone to addiction? Have you ever been diagnosed with substance abuse?

Phil, i have been in the hospital!
The difference to me is that Lorazepam doesnt cause a hangover. I think the hangover is a regulating factor with alcohol. For me anyways.
I will take low potency APs for a little relaxation and restrict Lorazepam for social anxiety only. This way i will use it only once a month or once every two months.

Whatever works is good. Hangovers never limited my alcohol intake. So, I quit drinking 30 years ago.

Hey, have you ever tried Topomax for social anxiety? A couple studies show it can help.
Here's one of the studies: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15641873

My thought - taking a fast-acting, psycho-active substance in an excessive dose to help you feel comfortable in a social situation and combining said substance with another fast-acting psychoactive substance that, you must know, is highly contraindicated with benzos, is very problematic. Or put it another way - what would your prescribing doctor think of this? I can't believe that 5mg +alcohol was what s/he prescribed.

topiramate is also appealing because of its weight loss effects.

Well, you can try Topomax or raise your Effexor, which are better options than alcohol and benzos.

I am driving again so Topamax is no option. the side effects other than that are not very appealing either.
