Similar to escitalopram but without heart issues

Posted by Andrew B. D. on May 20, 2015, at 14:16:04

I've felt best with escitalopram but it had heart related issues (i.e. changes to heart beat etc. possibly related to the fact it affects the QT interval).

What drug would you recommend that is most similar to escitalopram in its therapeutic effect (I assume it must be another SSRI) but which does not have any heart related side effects?

Thanks.

I dunno man. What were you taking it for? Are you on anything right now? I read somewhere that Luvox is safer than a lot of other SSRIs, but I'm not a doc and Luvox carries its own set of problems.

If its depression...you have plenty of options. OCD...probably fewer options. Anxiety...lots of options. See where I'm going with this?

Could you lower the dose and augment? Some people can take an SSRI+Wellbutrin, SSRI+Remeron, SSRI+buspar, so on and so forth. I seem to recall reading that the cardio issues w/ escitalopram are dose related, so...I dunno...maybe try that?

Have you tried other SSRIs? Any problems? Successes? I mean, I'm not a doc, so I'm just asking what has worked, what you're treating, and what effects you need/want from your medication.

Good luck!

It's for depression, anxiety and OCD. Most pronounced being the anxiety.

joe f,
You wrote,[...how about Luvox...]
I am unsure as to what you are wanting to mean. If you could post answers to the following, then I could respond accordingly.
True or False:
A. I know, Lou, that Luvox could not induce any adverse effects to one's heart.
B. I suggested Luvox, Lou, because it is a drug that could increase suicidal thinking.
C. I have no idea, Lou, why I suggested Luvox

joe and friends,
The correction is in part B to read that [...I suggested Luvox, Lou, because it is a drug that can {decrease} suicidal thinking..], (instead of that Luvox could increase suicidal thinking)

joe, Andrew and friends
There are reports of Lexapro inducing intense compelling suicidal thoughts, more so that Luvox and other drugs in the same class as Lexapro.
Here is one such report.

Been on low dose luvox generic for over 11 years and never felt suicidal. It's also great for those with anxiety & ruminations

They all kind of differ from one another. I would say Prozac would be closest.
