Why is zyprexa impossible? I thought you liked seroquel better? Is the zyprexa working now?

If you go off the seroquel, won't you lose weight? 16.66mg zyprexa makes me lose weight. I take 20mg once in a while, this way I keep the weight off. What I say is take slightly less z once and a while and you won't need the metformin. I go every other day and do fine. Also if you need something else, I find that perphenazine is good and sort of weight nutral.

I think zyprexa is right...once the seroquel is tapered, you'll probably lose weight. I'd stay on the metformin and if you feel like it, maybe try some supplements. Alpha lipoic acid has been used in a few small studies w/ atypicals (I think one involved zyprexa, not sure though) with weight loss and helping the metabolic stuff, with good results.

I personally think you need some mood drugs in your life. I have some kinda moody psychotic problem (its officially Bipolar I, but I think they gave me Bipolar I because I come from a "good family," so I'm spared the schizophrenia diagnosis), and trileptal, in particular, has been incredibly helpful. Lamictal helps, too...I only take 100mgs/day, which is probably a good dose for a second anticonvulsant.

Anyway...yeah...that's my recommendation. Supplements and a mood stabilizer, lol. Actually...neurontin isn't the world's best mood stabilizer, but it is still used, with other drugs. I think you're supposed to start at 300mgs x 3 daily. Is that an option?

Good luck!

I like Seroquel better because its less likely to cause diabetes.

Its impossible because every time i try to reduce Zyprexa, i find myself (pre)psychotic.

I am seeing my doctor on tuesday asking for a raise to 2500mg Metformin.

I really dont want to gain any more!

Hmmm...that's rough. One fun fact about AP/AAP drugs: sometimes, when withdrawn, they can cause psychosis in those who were never psychotic to begin with, or a more severe psychotic episode in those who have experienced psychosis. I forget the reason...D2 upregulation, something like that.

Maybe just taper the seroquel and increase the zyprexa? I don't see how you can stand that much sedation...you must be made of tougher stuff than me, lol.

Some case studies suggest that Abilify can help w/ other AP/AAP drugs. I don't know the mechanism, but I found a few case studies on PubMed...one with a couple people on loxapine, one with Risperidone, one with clozapine. I seem to recall reading about add-on Abilify for, if nothing else, mitigating weight gain with other drugs. I don't know how they do dosing or what the side effects might be. Probably a better option than some other treatments for AAP induced weight gain (I knew a lady on zyprexa and Didrex, lol...bad call on her docs part).

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.

Can you back that up with science?

Sometimes i wish i was never put on antipsychotics...

Probably psychosis would have faded on its own. My first diagnosis that i didnt make myself was "phenelzine induced psychosis".

So why AAPs then??

I think its called "tardive psychosis" and/or "supersensitivity psychosis."

The anti-psychiatry people are always bringing up references from the (usually, older) literature about that one. Apparently, the concept has been floating around since the early days of Thorazine.

Has the zyprexa given you diabeties? Do you check your sugars? Is that why you take metformin?

I take the Metformin because i would be fat as hell without it.
