I started looking at ratings yesterday. I see a psychiatrist talking about their staff. They don't take insurance and I don't want to walk into a zoo atmosphere. Due to the same trick a therapist did, I think it's all about the money.
It's like retail, you set up different 'profit centers'. I think this particular doctor had been practicing two years. I'd love to see SLS or the other smart med people here talking to her. "I agree Scott - what does that mean?"
My psychiatrist is 71 and looks more like 55 but I don't think that he's really up on meds - he's lost the hunger for learning new things.

Psychiatrists are in business to make money. Most of them likely feel that the majority of their patients are taking sugar pills and wasting their time. They all are pretty much the same and don't even know how meds work.

That's true mine sure doesn't. Only two choices here too. So I just let him write scripts and medicate myself at the dose I feel I need

This is really unfair. My experience is that most psychiatrists are in business to help people and are genuinely good and caring people. It's one of the lowest paying specialties in medicine. They don't feel they are giving out sugar pills - many people get better on meds. They know as much as anyone knows about the brain and mental illness and meds. I have seen many psychiatrists over the last ten years - one long-term, another for addiction issues and several in hospitals - and, except for the creepy guy who gave me ECT, I have been impressed by all of them, found them compassionate and caring and competent.

More like the newer meds don't have the data that the older drugs have.
