I just had hallucinations with sleep paralysis

Posted by Lamdage22 on October 23, 2014, at 17:26:23

Very scary sh*t. I was kind of asleep but at the same time kind of awake. Somebody came into my room, at least thats what i saw. It was so scary because i couldnt move one bit to defend myself. WTF.

Most likely hallucinations. I am in this rehab place, so its not its not impossible someone came into my room, but i am pretty positive it was hallucination. The person i thought it was is home since 4 hours. I will ask him but im sure it wasnt him.

What is going on with me? Is it the meds??

Sleep paralysis is frightening. For awhile I needed to avoid afternoon naps because I would have it.

I don't think it is indictitive of psychosis, however, it is associated with many issues such as narcolepsy, medications, ptsd, abuse, etc.

There are links at pubmed, and sleep paralysis is googlable. Wiki has an entry, too.

It is a truly bizarre experience :(

Sleep paralysis is pretty common and not necessarily connected to any mental illness or psychotropic drug. It's a scary feeling, but fortunately only lasts for a few moments. It seems like forever when you're in it, but, like bad nightmares, it's probably only several seconds. In rapid REM sleep, your body is pretty much paralyzed, It seems like sleep paralysis with the kind of hallucination you experienced, is coming partly awake while still being in deep REM state.

I had sleep paralysis when I took trazodone. I was half-asleep and couldn't move my body. I thought every sound was someone breaking into my apartment. Never took trazodone again.

I didn't actually have a hallucination, but hallucination-like things, which could be dreams, can happen in sleep paralysis, which could be from a med. Sleep paralysis and half-dreams are not unusual, even without meds.

Please don't worry too much! :)

I just realized that what I have is called sleep paralysis. I'll be asleep and feel awake but can't wake up. Then when I do wake up, I'll realize it was just a dream.

I agree. That was the strongest hallucination i ever had. I thought to myself that this must be what truly and fully schizophrenic people experience!

What i do notice though is that antipsychotics make the line between awake state and sleep/dream state more blurry.

When i fall asleep, too. I ll start dreaming while not being fully asleep sometimes.

It is manageable though and far better than the state that i would have without antipsychotics!

That is called an out of body experience- it is nothing to be alarmed about - 1 in 10 people have them sometime in their life.

I suggest you read the books of William Buhlman about out of body travel.

Not everything is pathological.

You were not out of your body yet, but sleep paralysis can be the first stage, and who you saw was an entity from the astral plane.

I suggest you read information from that site by William Buhlman.

Often what doctors don't understand (metaphysics) is labeled as illness.

So, it is a good thing that i lie paralyzed in my bed and see foreign people running through my room?

Im supposed to train this "ability" and enter spiritual warfare at night?

Na, man. I have been down that road. Although not as far as you.

I tend to abuse peoples esoteric beliefs. Not because i want to cause harm. Its because i have not yet given up on getting some sense into them.

You definitely had Sleep Paralysis. I had it the whole time I was on that really popular AP that I can't remember the name of. It also gave me really lucid dreams that I thought were real, so I think we had the same experience. I'm assuming it's from one of the AP's you are on.

Yeah probably. I can relate, my dreams are different now, too.

But this was a mixture of dream and hallucination. It was like my mind was awake but my body was sleeping sort of thing.

Really weird.

Hypnagogic hallucinations. I had them for a while and still sleep with the lights on and my bedroom door locked which is funny because the people are in my brain. What I can't figure out is the tactile part of it. How do they 'touch' you?

A hypnopompic state (or hypnopomp) is the state of consciousness leading out of sleep. During this state one can experience paralyses, hallucinations or vivid dreams.

Hypnogogic is the opposite.

Luckily it was just a one time thing.

No big deal.
