AD startup nausea. How long?

Posted by Beckett on August 2, 2014, at 16:24:56

Sorry for the bandwidth I'm taking up today.

I started Lexapro (10 mg.) nine days ago. The nausea, while intermittent, is debilitating, and it lasts cumulatively about half the day or more.

I know nausea is a common side effect when starting an AD, but what I really want to know is if this sx is within the window where the nausea will resolve?

In other ways, I like the Lexapro. It's reducing the depth of my depression already. Hopefully I won't need to discontinue.

Really the depression part is great. I never went above 5mg. Never had any nausea at all? Phillipa

I had very mild nausea and loss of appetite when I started lexapro. I liked it. I lost ten pounds. It went away within a month.

Thank you both for your thoughts. I'm wondering if there is an anti-nausea med that is benign and effective.

Maybe ondansetron (Zofran)?

Ondansetron blocks serotonin 5-HT3 receptors. Perhaps SRI drugs produce nausea in part by the overstimulation of this receptor. I don't really know.

Is the lexapro still helping with depression? So glad the nausea is gone. Phillipa

Yes, the lexapro is giving me a lift, thank you for asking. I feel a little weird--a bit heavy headed, however, since the nausea vanished, my outlook has improved. Haven't been on an ssri for some years, and want to make the most of it. Still bouts of anxiety, and I hope ERP therapy unwinds some mental warping. You know what, Phillipa? I've been dx'd with an ocd spectrum thing. Explains the rumination. What a surprise!

Same as me and OCD is an anxiety disorder. Still think luvox is good fluvoximine. The lexapro seems to make me feel stranger? Phillipa

I remember your ocd issues. Is Luvox recommended for ocd? Seems a bunch of SSRI's are indicated. Spoke to my therapist-to-be, and she sounds young. Proficient, but young :) the world is young.

When first out under brandname I had quite a few docs say the best for OCD. I know they say this about the others also. I did read something about melatonin in luvox. I take a small dose but it's been the only one can nt get off of. Phillipa
