stated Brintellix/vortioxetine today.

Posted by TriedEveryMedication on February 7, 2014, at 20:53:38

yeah, it takes a couple weeks for things to kick in (...supposedly... I have had drugs like paxil work in hours, desipramine work the next day)

Definitely an energizing drug. I feel perky an cheerful this first day. (which is definitely a change from yesterday when I was a bit grumpy from the weather)

All of the big bad sides I was warned of - dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea - never showed up at the party.

I'll post an update in a week or two.

Anyone else taking it?

I was in the vortioxetine phIII trial a while back.

The advice I would give you is start low and go slow. It has a long half-life and will build up. I found it very activating -- too much so for me, but I'm pretty typically med sensitive. I guess I'll stick to the good news...it had a net positive effect on sexual functioning (how's that for irony).

There is a group discussing their experience with Brintellix in CB forum. Check it out. Good luck.

How is it going with Brintellix?

I was on 10mg for about a month. Almost no side-effects. Like none except a little diarrhea. Was warned about vicious nausea- never happened.

Felt like it was kinda doing something. Subtle, but my moods were better. A little more irritable and less tolerant of ... ahem ... idiots, but whatever.

Been on 20mg for a couple weeks. initial sides on 20mg were brutal. abdominal pain at night, bad enough to keep me awake at night. This went away in about 5 days. Feel drowsy on 20mg to the point I want to sleep a lot. Hopefully this will go away. If it doesn't, I'll drop down to 10 or 15mg.

My doctor claim he heard about brintellix enhancing cognition at some presentation by another doctor. This smells like pharma pump-and-dump/quasi false marketing (we've seen this before). There is one study that supports it from the U of Toronto, but I can't find the study or the abstract online.

Still, it's somewhat hard to say if this med is doing anything for me.

Have you been taking them both concurrently? I've been rapidly tapering off Celexa to start with 5mg Brintellix but I'm not sure when is good to start.

People what are your updates on Brintellix??

Here are mine after 2+ weeks (in comparison with Celexa):

Main complaints so far:
Personal interactions somewhat dampened/can't concentrate in conversations;
Cognitive and executive skills somewhat dampened;
Less motivation/drive;
Interacts with other meds and clears from my system too fast;
Some GI distress...although tolerable

Pros thus far:
More organic sex drive without having to augment with other drugs;
Wake up happier, without the SSRI "tremors" and sweat;
Obsessive ruminations down somewhat;
Less outright anger, but low, more constant level of irritability;
Sleep is less disrupted

So there it is. Giving it more time but I'm having trouble interpersonally and cognitively. I have a big dive trip coming up and I'm worried about being a danger to myself and how long it would take to switch back.

my update... been at 20mg for over a month now (started 2/7 @ 10mg)

pros:
-cognitively a little sharper
-good sex drive
-just starting to feel a little happier (past day or 2)
-just starting to feel a little calmer and less socially anxious (past day or 2)
-lost all the weight I gained on side-effexor

cons:
-more irritable
-still getting the big D
-occasional stomach pain at night
-low motivation/low energy/don't care about things
-kinda blaise socially
-felt kinda more depressed up until the past couple days.

I was just about to discontinue this drug because of low motivation and feeling more depressed than normal. And the "don't GAF about anything" feeling. But the past couple days it feels like it is "kicking in" so to speak.

I'll give it another couple weeks and see if this lasts.

You should check out the thread above about SSRIs and apathy. They mentioned adding a small amount of benzo to kick the apathy. I was skeptical but I tried yesterday and the I don't GAF's completely won away. I almost became a little hypomanic.

Jeez i bet 85% of those "effects" talked about on here is placebo.

Sorry, im just not buying it anymore.

About to hit week three. Love the sex drive, but the zoney/apathy/lethargy is REALLY getting under my skin.

Benzo seemed to kick the apathy for the first couple of days. Yesterday and today it just upped the lethargy.

I have two parties to attend tonight and I might need to start eating ritalin just to leave the house. Blah.

I switched to taking my 20mg at night. Messed up my sleep for a night, but now it really helps with the drowsiness.

Also, I have taken 10mg adderall (both regular and XR) now and then with brintellix. Seems to play together ok.

At this point I'm having trouble pinpointing this apathy. It's either that medicated desire to do nothing or depression, in which case I may need to increase the Brintellix.

I am at 20mgs. I may even add a little Celexa back in, which worked well with the Lamictal to give me motivation.

After Monday I couldn't face another day of apathy and depression. I've taken 10 mgs of Celexa in the morning the past two days.

Maybe it's placebo, and the Brintellix definitely increases the Celexa levels in my blood, and maybe it was just the mondays, but I'm feeling good and I hope it continues.

I guess in essence I'm treating the Brintellix as buspar, because it does a lot of good but SUCKS for my depression. I could try to go even higher on the Brintellix (to 30 or 40) but my feeling is that it won't make a difference.
