I am on day 5 of 500mgs (supposed to go up to 2000mgs) of metformin for zyprexa induced weight gain and I must say today I felt surprisingly confident and a lift in mood. The only possible thing I can think that might cause this is the metformin as it is the only med I have changed in the last week. Has anyone had any benefits from metformin for their depression and or anxiety? Many thanks,

When I started metformin I felt Soooooo much better because it stabilized my blood sugar levels, no longer was I all over the board from too high to too low, I miss it a lot and list weight on it but my new Dr.pulled me off it because my HBA1C.test came down to 5.7 and well duh it came down from the metformin...he said if it goes back up he will let me back on but I've managed to stay steady buy my weight went back up 5 pounds so eat carb free and rest lots if good fats and look up the ketogenic way of eating. Look up diabetes forum too for support.

> moggerJust because you're in a good mood doesn't mean it has to come from a med change. Don't put so much weight into what meds you're taking and your mood so much as what you're doing in your life and your mood.
You could be feeling better, if it is from the metformin at all, because of health benefits regarding your blood sugar.

Louisana Sportsman thanks for your advice and your good intentions however I do think you should be careful giving one advice without knowing the history of their condition. For me to say I have felt surprisingly confident and a lift in mood is shocking giving my condition and history of which you don't know and I don't expect you to without asking or knowing me. Your last sentence about possibly having this reaction due to blood sugar is precisely why I am asking if anyone has had this reaction with metformin as again I have started taking it and for no reason have felt a change. Again thanks for your input but be careful giving one life advice over a keyboard.

metformin lifted my mood because of weight loss. That is important obviously..and motivating.
