Is minocycline the medication that you're referring to? I wonder if it might be possible to ask your doctor to test for evidence of an infection so you'll be able to make a stronger case for needing an antibiotic. Is your white blood cell count high? Even if it's not, maybe you could ask your doctor to test for Toxoplasma gondii antibodies. If Wikipedia is to be believed, a whopping 38 studies have found T. gondii antibody titers to be positively correlated with schizophrenia. I know that this doesn't necessarily prove that T. gondii can cause schizophrenia, but I don't think that the evidence to support the dopamine hypothesis of schizophrenia is 100 percent conclusive either, despite the fact that psychiatrists routinely prescribe D2 receptor-blocking antipsychotics to treat the disorder. Anyway, I think that you should try asking to be tested for T. gondii antibodies, because if you test positive (and there's at least a decent chance you might, as someone with a psychotic disorder), it will be harder than it is now for your doctor to justify not prescribing you an antibiotic. Of course, all of this is assuming that the medication you're talking about here is minocycline, or some other antibiotic or antimicrobial agent.

Just my thoughts.

Here are links to two journal articles that discuss Toxoplasma gondii infections as they relate to schizophrenia. I'm having too much trouble concentrating currently to read the articles in their entirety, but I've read their abstracts, and the abstract of the second article mentions that the authors found 15 studies positively correlating T. gondii antibodies with schizophrenia, in addition to 23 studies that had been found previously (for a total of 38, as reported by Wikipedia). The links to the two articles are below:

And people made fun of me. I got the idea from Neuropsychiatrist E. Fuller Torrey, M.D. and his writings. He has an excellent, albeit old and I think out of print book tiled "Freudian Fraud."

This theory that the bacteria or virus found in cats and some other animals can be transmitted to humans. And manifests itself later as either schizophrenia or as bipolar disorder.

It is a THEORY, and has not been proven. But at least someone is actually trying to actually get a handle on these two God awful diseases. And even if this theory does not pan out in the end, I hand it to Dr. Fuller Torrey, MD for at least trying.

I dont keep up with this topic and subject anymore like I used to years ago. But my attitude would be if I was diagnosed with either schizophrenia, schizoaffective or manic depression, I'd be looking for credible stuff to try to treat my psychotic disease.

I will tell you one other thing that is actually documented as causing psychosis is sleep disordered breathing (sleep apnea). The chronic sleep deprivation it causes makes you lose your mind, literally. And manifests itself as severe fatigue, excessive daytime tiredness (EDS) and (sometimes) paranoia and psychotic symptoms.

If its still a viable theory thats out there (I dont know if it is) I say go for it. Seek out a doctor who is willing to treat you with anti-biotics or whatever it is they use to treat that bacterial/viral infection.

It makes sense if viewed like lymes disease also as it can manifest also as tertiary syphylis
