Please save me!Parnate intoxication!Asking help

Posted by chinaboy on February 28, 2014, at 4:20:43

Now I'm in a confused state of mind, and English is not my mother tongue, but I'llI try to get my ideas across to you.
I asked for Nadil and Parnate on the internet, and got Parnate, which already expired in 2006, mailed to me by a very kind-hearted friend last Friday. I had been on Paxil for quite a time then. And without a second thought I took my first dose of Parnate (this was absolutely the most stupid thing I did! Don't blame me, coz I have blamed myself enough times already). Immediately after first dose of Parnate was taken, I felt anger, haltered, and brain fog. Later that night, I couldn't sleep. I was sitting on the bed, singing aloud, with hand mimicing the microphone (Had no idea of this at all until my father told me days later). I really had no memory left at all regarding what happened on the second, and third day. According to my Papa's memory, the same thing repeated itself on the second, and third day.
Stopped all the Parnate from the fourth day on(today is the 6th day). I slowly regained my consciousness, and am now feeling 1sleepy2extremely exhausted 3half awakened and half asleep. 4Now I cannot think much. 5Feeling as if my ability to feel the world got weakened: the intensities of my feelings are greatly reduced.6Severe social anxiety.7Severe brain fog.
My father sent me to different hospitals, but all the reports returned normal, and no doctor knows how to diagnose me:(
There is so much I want to say to you. But with my current state of mind, I can only write this much. Feel free to ask me questions, I'll answer each one of them. Any opinion would be appreciated!

So, let me you get this clear:

1) Did you take a non-prescription version of Parnate, one that you purchased on the Internet?

2) Did you take Parnate that expired in 2006?

3) Did you take Parnate within days of stopping the Paxil?

4) And finally, the comforting question: Did you take only one Parnate dose?

Even if you answer "Yes" to questions 1-3 (which it sounds like you will), I think if you also answer "Yes" to question 4, you're probably going to be okay. Perhaps you had serotonin syndrome (a common occurrence when taking an MAOI + SSRI together). Or, perhaps the withdrawal from the Paxil and the taking of Parnate interacted negatively in some way. Or, if the Parnate was bought online and was expired, perhaps there was something in it that didn't agree with your system, but even if that were the case, it seems unlikely that 1 pill could cause lingering effects. That's just my opinion looking at it from afar, and trying to be a voice of comfort. Here's hoping you start feeling better soon.

Hey, thanks, Scott. I know I would be freaked out if I took expired Internet-ordered Parnate one day after stopping Paxil.

Not to hijack this post, but how are you doing? I interacted with you briefly a few months ago, but haven't come back much since then. I read through a few of your posts and it sounded like things were not going so well.

Another question: What do you think of the information I posted in that article about generic drugs not being tested at all by the FDA until this year? Isn't that incredibly worrisome?

Hope you are doing okay.

Chris

Big time scary.

> Not to hijack this post, but how are you doing?

Thanks of asking. I really appreciate that.

I am perhaps 35% improved versus my unmedicated depressive state. If I do nothing more, then my life will remain stagnant until my death. This is an untenable scenario. I remain driven to find a treatment that will allow me to enter the workforce and build a life of achievement and enjoyment. For this to happen, I must discontinue Parnate and be allowed to deteriorate in order to try Brintellix (vortioxetine). I will probably become desperately depressed and have to fight-off thoughts of suicide, especially if Brintellix doesn't work for me.

I don't understand it. I thought the FDA was required to approve the use of a generic drug based upon bioavailability. I am not a big fan of the notion that generics must work as well as the name brand simply because they are formulated using the same active ingredients. I think the FDA allows a tolerance of +/- 20% in blood concentrations. Still, 20% is a big number as far as I'm concerned. I believe there is a movement to force generic drug companies to submit two positive studies that their product is effective.

I'm okay.

:-)

Now back to your regularly scheduled program....

Asian people respond differently to western medicine. Genetics play a big role in how these medications work. Anxiety can cause severe and frightening symptoms. Get on a good benzo until your brain chemistry returns to normal. Time will bring you back to your old self.
