no carb diet affecting my latuda?

Posted by porkpiehat on February 26, 2014, at 6:02:38

I know I'm supposed to take it with food. It used to knock me out when I took it. I started taking it again three days ago and I've had bad insomnia each night.

I am in the carb-free stage of a diet, but I still had two pork chops last night and a pound of green beans for dinner and took my Latuda right then.

It's been having a therapeutic effect that I've noticed at work already. My thoughts are less racy and more organized. But no sleep!

Seriously you need carbohydrates. Years ago when on Atkins and had a 4 hour glucose test. I was all of 20 something and came out diabetic. Was told to go home eat carbs and return in two weeks for another test which I did and I was then diagnosed with low blood sugar and told to eat protein every 4 hours. Carbs are necessary. I am supposed to add carbs back in a couple of days (sweet potatoes, brown rice, complex carbs but minimally) but you are supposed go through a week or two of "ketosis" where your body learned to feed off fats and proteins, thereby kick-starting your weight loss.

I'm wondering if one is cancelling out the other??

I dunno man. I think dramatically reducing your carb intake could have an effect on neurotransmitter levels, which would then change how psych meds affect you.

Or it could be agitation from calorie restriction. When I did a juice fast (the exact opposite kind of diet from what you're doing), I got crazy agitation, primarily because I was only getting about 600-1200 calories/day for an extended period of time.

Also, maybe blood levels have been affected (?). I would think that carb and calories restriction would alter blood levels of anything you're taking.

I have no experience with Latuda but a very low carb diet had a drastic (and positive) effect on my mood. It definitely did something to my brain.
