Med for flat feeling?

Posted by Sheilac on January 31, 2014, at 8:44:26

I'm stable on Trileptal, but it does make me hot and sweaty all night, gives me terrible night sweats, just a side effect, I guess.

But I'm just flat with no emotions and no motivation. A form of depression?

I'm thinking of switching from Geodon to something else. I've been off Geodon for 2 weeks and I feel less irritable and anxious. But, now just a half a cup of coffee makes me a jittery mess. I'm not having the eye twitches anymore from Geodon which is nice.

Having said this, my doc pushes Abilify, but I'm afraid of the weight gain. I don't know if low dose Lamictal would help with the low motivation & no energy ( I think this is a form of depression). What about Buspar for low grade depression?

I haven't tried Latuda or any others.

Any thoughts? I know low grade blah depression feeling is just a side effect of the BPII and mood stabilizers. But it sucks.

Its called anhedonia and most doctors like to prescribe dopaminergic drugs to treat it. You could try Focalin, Mirapex, Requip or Dextroamphetamine and see what happens. Also, antidepressants can be of use-something like Viibryd might help.

If your fine off the Geodon, don't push yourself on another atypical.

Yes, amazingly enough I am fine off Geodon. I'm not really anxious to start another med.

I will read more about the types of meds you mentioned. I'm guessing that low dose Adderall would work as well? What about low dose Lamictal?

Antipsychotics can cause a flattening of affect.

Adderall might be useful for the blahs you have. I'm not so sure about Lamictal, though-its antidepressant effects are exerted at higher dosages.

What ADs have you been on and what did they do?

The weird thing about Lamictal is that from 25-100mg it never gave me stability, only worked as an AD, made me a little hyper like a stimulant.

I recently tried the new Viibryd, but had side effect issues with it.

Focalin made me emotionally sad when it wore off - very weird.

SSRIs & SNRIs give me bladder issues. Wellbutrin makes me manic.

Possibly a low dose of Adderall, Wellbutrin or even provigil or nuvagil.

I've managed to stay off of or keep Klonopin to 1mg because I do notice that it makes me dull and a little down. Better to treat with Trileptal.

Lamictal can be exciting at low doses. That's why I suggested 200 mgs or more.

You get a lot of side effects from meds.

You know what med helped me with my mood? Lyrica. Also Riluzole.
