Inositol

Hi ladies and gents

What would be the normal dose of inositol for panic disorder?

I'm fairly sceptical about alternative remedies, but its cheap and safe and I thought it might be worth giving it a try.

The normal recommended dosage for inositol is 500 mgs two times day; however, to treat anxiety, panic disorder and OCD, you should take 12 to 18 g per day. The American Family Physician recommends that you not take inositol if you are taking an SSRI antidepressant.

Try Tiagabine.

Jono_in_adelaide,

A study that compared inositol with fluvoxamine as a treatment for panic disorder (and found the two to be comparable, with inositol reducing total panic attacks by more than fluvoxamine) used up to 18 g/day of inositol:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11386498

Another older study that found inositol to be superior to placebo in the treatment of panic disorder used 12 g/day of inositol:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7793450

I'd probably aim for 18 g/day if I were looking to maximize the supplement's effectiveness. As you seem to be aware, inositol doesn't seem to pose significant problems as far as side effects are concerned.
