How long for anxiolytic effets of mirtazapine ?

Posted by jono_in_adelaide on April 7, 2013, at 21:32:51

I took 15mg at night for 2 nights, then 30mg at night for the last 3 nights, and i dont seem to be feeling it yet.

I had assumed that as its anxiolytic effects were a result of 5HT2A blockade, I'd feel them fairly fast - am i wrong in assuming this?

Jono seems that I'm about the only person who never felt sedated by remeron? Took 15mg for a month fair trial to me. Phillipa

Remeron was never anxiolytic to me. Its antidepressant effect kicked within five days. I took 30mg.

7.5mg worked for me the first dose for anxiety and sleep. I went up to 15mg and experienced a return of anxiety as well as restless legs. I had to go back to 7.5mg and stayed there until I decided the weight gain wasnt worth it.

Hey jono, I took mirtazapine for a few days after you brought it to my attention. Unfortunately I dont handle serotonin antagonim very well anymore, which was how my most recent experience with cyproheptadine was. It used to help but lately it makes me feel more depressed. So I thought it would be best not tyo continue mirtazapine. But one thing it did do for me was bring down my blood pressure to almost normal. So I'm going to find a stand-alone adreno receptor antagonist and use it for blood pressure.

But with my past experience with meds that work by blocking off a receptor, they can indeed have a delayed effect like reuptake inhibitors.

I guess I'll keep on plodding along with it, and see if things get any better after a few weeks at full dose. I see my doctor again 3 weeks from now (4 weeks after starting mirtazapine), if things havent dramaticly improved by then, then I'll be asking about Nardil.

that's a very small dose. 30 mg is the standard maintenance dose.

At the dose your taking, don't expect a strong anxiolytic reaction.
