Amitriptyline dosing

Posted by tensor on March 4, 2013, at 14:25:42

Have been taking amitriptyline 75mg for depression/anxiety for ten days. Have had a few moments with more energy but I don't know if I can attribute that to amitrip. 'Weird' thing is I don't have any side effects worth mentioning that are typical to TCAs.
Other TCAs I've been on have given me the typical side effects. I'm not gonna raise the dose just yet, if it was to start helping at this dose it would be a very good thing.
Normally, lack of side effects indicate a too low dose, so what do you say? What doses have worked for you? How long until it worked?

Hey tensor, I think by 75 mg I was seriously constipated but hopefully your diet is better than mine was. I was at 250 mg for about 5 years. I'd love to hear other peoples experience with it.

side note..have you smelled the pills? Stick your nose in the bottle. lol smell like chemicals for sure. Good luck I hope you do really well with it.

Most people need 125-150mg of amitriptyline to achive a response.

If the side effects are too much to handel, try nortriptyline 75-100mg

Started on 200mg of Pamelor (non-generic Nortriptyline), started working the first day. Side effects came on gradually (mainly dry mouth). A few more SEs after switching to generic. A lot of these I attributed to depression itself. Most will pass in about a year.

250mg is a lot, did you have an ECG? Yeah, the pills smell like paint or something.

Thanks,

Ok. I have taken nortrip in the past, worked well for a year or so. Think the side effects of it were pretty rough.
