Ketamine follow-up

Posted by brynb on February 26, 2013, at 20:37:32

Hi all-

Here's my current regime:
-Ketamine, 90mg IM injections, once a week
-Lexapro, 20mg
-Saphris, 5mg
-Valium, 10mg prn
-Ambien xr (as needed)
-Deplin
-Vit D

I think the Ketamine shots got me out of an acute depressive episode, but I can't say for sure yet whether I'm benefitting long-term. I'm still having cognitive problems (memory loss, attention/concentration issues, etc.), but I hear it's supposed to help with that in the long run. Only time will tell how Ketamine will work for me going forward and on a larger scale.

I had a treatment today and it's the only one for the week. I'll be getting one next week too. After that, I have no idea what the protocol is (once a week or then once every two weeks, etc.)

The outcome? I'm just not sure yet. I guess it served it's purpose in helping me out of my funk. I worry everyday that the other shoe will drop. Hopefully, my other meds will be the safety net I need to get by. I find myself wanting so badly to have a life, to go out, to workout, to meet someone, but I simply can't really *do* anything still. I get up in the morning, go to my doc appts, walk my dog, get coffee and that's about it (on a good day).

I think I might have some rapid cycling as I just started Saphris and had a rough weekend, though yesterday and today I'm fine.

I've also come to realize that I think my depression was caused due to environmental/psychological factors and a low stress threshold. Who knows?

Sorry so long. Just wanted to follow-up for anyone who was interested.

Hope everyone here is doing well.

Your life is exactly like mine except for the dog. I'm not going to try walking my cat, I have enough problems.
Just wanted to say I hope you get better soon.

Thanks, Phil. I think you should walk the cat just to see people's reactions ;).

That's what I'm afraid of. Plus this big *ss orange tabby would be terrified being that far from his food dish.

Brynb so you are now going out, walking the dog, drinking coffee out of the house, and also getting up and keeping doc appointments. Sounds very positive to me. But in all seriousness if it was me I'd be nervous as all get out thinking the same. I see progress for you and a lot of it. Congratulations I feel are in order for you. Extend the walks by one block each day. Say hi to a friendly face. I know have to be careful. Might stick to females for now. Phillipa

If it's like my daughter's first cat, you could take her for a drag. My daughter was 5 at the time (now 17) & could not figure out why a harnessed cat would refuse to walk like the dog. The cat would just flop to the ground & refuse to move; not even to run away.

My cat is too jumpy, too nervous. He would be freaked out looking for dogs. My best friend though.

Thanks, P.

Anything forward is progress I suppose, huh? I just wish I was able to *do* things I want to do. Up until 2 years ago, despite being depressed, I did go out and manage to work here and there. I'm a far cry from that still and it saddens me. And, as a woman at 38, the biological clock thing is ticking, so I feel pressured (by myself).

Thanks for your words of encouragement.

That's actually how my dog walks, so when I say I walk my dog, it's not a huge accomplishment. She's a 5 pound Yorkie who clearly doesn't think she's a dog. She just sits stubbornly in front of my apartment building, maybe walk halfway down the block, and I end up carrying her back home. And she loves cats.

The jury is still out on whether Ketamine treats depression succesfully.

>I simply can't really *do* anything still

Why?

>I think I might have some rapid cycling

You don't.

Maybe the problem is you're looking too hard for something wrong with you.

Hi Eric,

I'm not looking for anything wrong. I wish it were so simple. Having TRD for over 20 years proves it's not.

If I knew how and why I COULD do what I wished to, I wouldn't mention it.

Are you taking your meds these days? You were absent from the forum for a period, and came breezing in with quite a combative nature.

Hope you're well.
