No chocolate in the house, or I'd have tried it. I did realize my dopamine was low though, so I smoked a couple of cigarettes. Now *there's* a healthy solution. I had given them up and boy did I get a buzz, but no real help with my severe depression. Broke down and took a Ritalin. Talk about physical dependence. It did occur to me though that next time I should taper down my dose to avoid the plunge over the cliff. Thanks for the advice.

Good advice, but when it really comes down to it, there are amphetamines and there is Ritalin in all its various forms. For some reason amphetamines don't do much for me at all. Weird. But thanks for the advice.

Oh, I've been on it before. And it helped, but only marginally. As I've said, amphetamines just don't work for me like Ritalin does. But thanks :)

Update: I thank everyone for all their good advice. I broke down and took a Ritalin. Next holiday I will taper my dose down. I've never had a Holiday from Hell like this one. Might be it has something to do with the fact that my pdoc put me on Ritalin ER, rather than the immediate release form. I plan to talk to him about it on Monday. Thanks again, you guys rock :)

Kat, this drug is avaliable in Europe, and might well help you - you can legaly import it if you have a script from your doctor. it hits noradrenalin and dopamine

My gut feel is that it would be especialy usefull combined with an SSRI such as Zoloft of Lexapro.

Cool, now I'm pretty sure its just called a mocha. Its basically like coffee with mocha added to it. It is already sweetened already. Strbucks or coffee made t home does taste better but there is something in the mocha. Lol the 1st time I got one I was thinking ... wow! I figured they would have to pull it off the market because its like speed.

But I'm in a situation where I'm very sensitive to foods and drinks I consume, I thin it related to a low dopamine situation I also have. But good luck!

Sorry about your knee. Not being able to walk makes everything more difficult. But my husband just had knee replacement a few months ago and, boy, is it a brutal recovery. I had no idea how painful it would be and how long it would take.

Kat - Remind me why you stopped the ritalin? Were you building tolerance? If so, can't you just increase the dose?

Can Tegretol worsen depression? » baseball55

baseball - yes, I thought I was developing tolerance. Now I'm not so sure. I'm on Ritalin ER and am supposed to take a tab twice per day. So today I took one at 8:01, and a second at 8:02...an hour later I still feel like death. So I took a third. Still feel like death. I'm beginning to wonder if the Tegretol I was started on for my anxiety is actually making my depression worse, b/c this makes no sense whatsoever. I've *never* gone through anything like this with Ritalin before. As soon as I finish posting here I'm gonna research it.

Hey there...

I was just gonna jump in and save you the effort of trying to get your hands on amineptine. It has been discontinued in all of Europe quite a while ago already, and it is, as far as I know, no longer available anywhere in the world. There was a website that sold apparently genuine Survector (trade name of amineptine), but they closed some time ago too.

Sorry about that :(...

Is it? I thought it had been discontinued due to abuse potential ie it makes you feel reasonable.

Kat, if you're willing to try the grey market (and if i was in your shoes, i would)

Nothing is guaranteed, but it sounds like it would be well worth trying

No, no! Don't do that! I gained a lot of weight from AAPs (which I have since lost) and had mildly artritic knees which became horribly painful with the excess weight. So I know how awful it can be. And to mot be able to comfortably go for a walk when you're depressed makes everything that much worse. But you do have to steel yourself mentally for a knee replacement. My husband, who is totally hyperactive, geared himself up for weeks of inactivity. We got all the premium cable channels and watched tons of TV. You just need to prepare yourself mentally, which is hard if you're fighting depression. But good luck. Keep us posted.

Hmm, looks like their site is back up again. It was down when I last looked for it a year or so ago.

The offer says "custom quantities also available", so I think that makes it clear that they are not selling a pharmaceutical product. But maybe it's worth a try, I haven't ever heard of anyone taking amineptine, successfully or not.

Please don't use this site to exchange information on how to import into the US medication that hasn't been approved by the FDA:
