Did your problems begin with mercury fillings?

Posted by Prefect on December 28, 2012, at 16:33:20

How many of you out there have their mental disorder start around the same time dental fillings with mercury was done on them?

I keep re-visiting this issue over the years in my mind and then not giving it much thought because the research seems to indicate no correlation.

In my case my mental problems began the same week...

No problems for me as got them as a kid. Had most removed and replaced with crowns as an adult. Also had the time they didn't know about the mercury vapors so just removed and a crown put on. I didn't have any problems til thyroid went. Phillipa

No problems. I don't buy it myself. That's just me.
If my dentist said we need to get those out but no dentist has said it and it would be a money maker for them.

I guess this debate rages on so who knows. Here's one side.

Consumer Reports magazine claims that the connection between many of these diseases and amalgam fillings is solely revenue-generating propaganda. Consumer Reports told its readers on several occasions that "if a dentist wants to remove your fillings because they contain mercury, watch your wallet

Yeah, I guess the reason I myself have never put much stock on this is that millions of people have mercury fillings and don't have mental problems. I never seriously considered replacing them, and chances are the new resins are probably as bad for health.

It just nags at the back of my mind once in a while when I remember my problems began 16 years ago the very week I got a few fillings done.

It certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.
My mother waited till I was 13 to go to the dentist, I had 8 cavities. My family all had bad teeth. Plus there was always sweets around.
Dental work has cost me a small fortune.

I know today a mercury thermometer if broken requires a space suit crew to clean up the mercury. Do they even still have those thermometers? I have one. Phillipa

Mine started I think maybe 6 to 12 months after the large amalgams fillings were done. But I'll never know for sure. Around the same time I had some fairly heavy exposure to ticks and have been diagnosed by two different MDs with chronic Lyme disease. So, did the mercury weaken me against the Lyme bacteria? Or, did the Lyme bacteria make the effects of mercury much worse. Or some of both. Or was it just one not the other? But anyway, yeah, I am totally in the camp that says amalgam fillings leach enough mercury to cause a myriad of biological problems throughout the body and nervous system. Some people are fine their whole lives with amalgams. Others get chronically ill. I believe it is the genetics that makes the difference. Some people have impaired ability to clean out and excrete toxins. So they tend to accumulate toxins more than normal.

I did 23 rounds of DMSA to clean out as much as I could endure. I''m sure there is still a lot there. Some people at forums reported as many as 60 rounds before they suddenly started improving. I remember the first three rounds or so I could actually taste metal in my mouth.

If the amalgams are still there then they need to be removed ASAP. In the meantime two beneficial supplements are vitamin C and selenium. They help with protecting from mercury damage, binding up some of the mercury molecules, and generally lessening the insult.

Who knows what kind of damage was done by the mercury? Will it heal or it is a kind of injury that won't ever heal back to normal? Or will everything be just fine when the mercury is gone?

Anyway, sorry. They dental world made it sound, and still do, like amalgams are safe. I think the debate is about evenly divided but leaning more and more toward the mercury poisoning direction. It just makes more sense than any critics might offer. I have no doubt because I have lived it.
