Gadchik that is what my thinking also has always been. I curse the day I ever took an SSRI. Now I'm hooked on something I didn't need. Hope someone weighs in on this. P

Ive never understood why they say benzos damage ur brain, yet ssris cause neurogenisis. Dont both of these meds cause the gaba or serotonin to stay in the receptors longer, and dont actually increase the amt of either? I know what u mean about being stuck on the ssri. Ive been taking prozac around menses, and I feel a withdrawal when it finally leaves system. Pdoc said no withdrawal on prozac. I had withdrawal on zoloft too. I know I will have it if I try to get off klonopin.

its because benzos...im not sure if this all the way accurate but it activates GABA, connecting to certain sectors of brain that envolve GABA...

its like this....methamphetamine stimulates dopamine, it works well but if its used at higher doses, tolerance and it depletes the dopamine from strong stimulation of it. Benzos maybe a bit similar, but its a off example. Wellbutrin or methyphendiate do reptake, not release it. That's why there known to do less damage.

Stuff like Gabatril is a GABA reptake med...i just found that out doing research. Same way with antidepressnants, they can nuerogenertive in increasing sero levels, usally they have no damage at all...the only thing is tolerance.

they both hurt the brain. all psych meds do is create an unusual brain state in an attempt to alleviate distress. sometimes its worth it, sometimes its not. with sri drugs, I'd say its not worth it.

"with sri drugs, I'd say its not worth it"

You wouldnt say that if you had an SRI responsive condition christ.

The first three big leaps in psychiatry were the neuroleptics, the benzodiazepines, and the monoamine reuptake inhibitors.... the next two were the second generation antidepressants and atypical antipsychotics

GAD chick - they are different drugs that work in different way, there is no reason that their effects would be similar

Thanks everyone for replying. Ive always had difficulty with my taking a benzo over an ssri and been confused by it all. I want to be healthy above all, and dont want stay on any drug long term. Hugh, thanks for that article. I bookmarked it,and will read thoroughly. I skimmed it and was very interested.
