Seroquel Crazy - HELP ME!!!

Posted by sheilac on February 24, 2012, at 10:08:51

My doc wants me to take 300mg lithium at night for depression (it works) and 150mg Trileptal 2x a day for mood (it works but makes me feel depressed, hence the lithium).

Here's the problem - SLEEP!!! I can't sleep through the night. Generic Ambien sucks and doesn't do a thing for me and melatonin - no matter how much I take doesn't work through the night.

Last night out of desperation (after 3 nights without sleep!) I took 50mg of Seroquel and slept great finally. But, as usual, I woke up this morning a monster from the Seroquel.

I didn't take the Trileptal because I thought maybe all 3 meds are just way too much.

Would the morning Trileptal chase away the Seroquel monster I am when I wake up?

Is taking all three of these meds too much?

Any suggestions. I love the sleep I get from Seroquel but I may get divorced if I stay on it. I need something to take the edge off. It's like the Seroquel makes me manic or something!

What do I do? HELP ME!

Does your doc know? Could it be a paradoxical reaction to the seroquel? Just throwing it out there? Phillipa

Doc just called. She said it was ok to try 25mg of Seroquel for sleep (which will work) and for the morning mania to take 300mg of Trileptal.

So, at night I will be taking 1mg Klonopin, 300mg Lithium, 150mg Trileptal and 25mg Seroquel.

Morning, just the 300mg Trileptal. Hopefully that will curb the Seroquel craziness.

Have you tried Restoril instead of ambien or seroquel? Good stuff.

Yeah, Shelia, restoril is temazepam which is another benzo. I take it for sleep because ambien does not work for beans and effects my mood adversely.

You could try a little of it along with the klonopin instead of the Seroquel if your doc agrees. It might be easier on your mood. Since younare already taking a benzo (klonopin).

Yea, the more I think about it the more I think seroquel just isn't right even in small doses. For some reason atypical antipsychotics make me nuts.

Is restoril a sleeping pill?

Restoring. Vs. Klonopin?

I already take 2mg of Klonopin at night. How is the restoring different if it's a benzo too? Are there other sleeping pills I could take?

Temazepam is fairly quick to develop tolerance.

Have you tried melatonin made up by prescription from a compounding chemist? It is reportedly far superior to the over-the-counter stuff.

It's meant for sleep I'd google restoril and read. Phillipa

More so than other benzos? I use it for sleep since most other things have cr*pp*d out. I really don't want this to as well....

No, similar to other hypnotic benzos.

Thank you. That's good news.

Restoril is very sedating, but less potent than Valium. I think even at the usual max--30mgs nightly--its like 10mgs of valium or so, which is like taking an additional .5mgs Klonopin. I'd have to check the conversion tables, but I think that's about right. The downsides would be increased overall sedation and also I think it sometimes causes a bit of a hangover.

It seems weird to me to be on both lithium and trileptal, but if it works for you, go for it. A benzo, as others have suggested, is probably the way to go for sleep. Seroquel can cause odd side effects.

Trileptal issues- HELP ME!!!

I tend to do pretty good on low doses of meds, which is why we are doing the low dose combos.

But, I'm not sure I can stick with the Trileptal.

I thought it was the Seroquel I tried that was constipating me, but I think it is the Trileptal.

I can't take it. I may need to drop the Trileptal due to the constipation alone!

Maybe just upping the Lithium and dropping the Trileptal will get my body back to normal.

Don't think the Lithium will help with sleep though.

If trileptal is working otherwise, can you add a natural laxative? Stability is worth so much to me, it's always some kind of trade-off I think.

That would be my suggestion too. You can do something about constipation, not so much if a med is helping where others aren't.

Take care.
