Advice on noncompliance

Posted by Beckett on February 23, 2012, at 17:17:46

My doc tells me to withdraw from Latuda like this. Two weeks at 40, then a half week at nothing, then see him. Doesn't two weeks at 40 mg seem excessive? What if I did one week at 40 mg and called done?

Pure opinion, pure subjective advice, given that this stuff is like a hair shirt worn on the inside, what could be the possible harm of truncating the taper?

I am usually a tame, compliant patient. After fifty questions in twenty minutes, this taper was sprung at me on the way out the door. Yeah, I had no steam for a rebuttal.

If anything I would be inclined to spend some time on quite a small dose (20?), unless there is a good reason why not.

how long have you been on it? do you have any benzos handy? My only concern, since you're not psychotic or floridly manic, would be an upswing in agitation and anxiety as the neuroleptic is withdrawn. Not necessarily a huge deal. I'd do as short a taper as you deem appropriate and if you have benzos, use them while you discontinue. Obviously, I'm not a doctor, so don't take this as some sort of medically sound, insightful advice.

Beckett are you on 80mg now or 40mg? If 80mg that would be halfing it for two weeks and sounds okay. If 40mg now why not half it first. Sounds like what the pdoc here did to me wants to see you at baseline without it? Phillipa

Thanks, that's good advice all around. I can try 20 mg. That will feel like less of a forced march. And a good point about possible anxiety. I have never withdrawn from this much AAP before. Yes, I have extra benzos if needed.

It will be interesting to see a baseline. If one can be found in a week.

That's when I found out my mind or brain or body needed luvox and the valium all in low dose. Interesting to see what you are like without the AAP's. Glad you have the benzos. Phillipa

I have gone ahead with the 20 mg. I feel much improved, though whether I ever get a brain back remains to be seen. There hasn't been a need to add any benzos thankfully, though the heads up was greatly appreciated.

Now to discontinue. I am such a worry wort....

I would love a normal brain back also. Since they have new hips, shoulders, etc. I wonder if they sell new brains. I mean the Tin Man in The Wizzard did get a new Heart? Phillipa

Yes :-) and the scarecrow got a diploma.

I heard a doctor say once if you're alive there are more things right with you than there are wrong.
