New Job - life back on track!

Posted by jono_in_adelaide on February 5, 2012, at 18:45:00

I have scored a new job!

Its a step up (logistics superintendant rather than warehouse supervisor), 10000 dollars a year more money, more responsability, and because its with a big, diverse company, a lot of career options in the future.

Its with a major food manufacturer, the Australian equivalent of Kraft or General Foods, wanning logisitcs for a divion that supplies bread all over the northern territory.

Realy happy, I feel that finaly my life is back on track after it fell apart when I had my breakdown.

I have decided that I will stay on my current dose of Xanax (half a tablet twice a day) for a few weeks, untill I am settled into the new role, then finish tapering it down to nil. I will stay on the two antidepressants long term, and keep Xanax with me to be taken on an "as needed" basis

If I had an hour to myself a week I was lucky.

The behavior is bad and you are constantly marking and planning.

I need a career change....anything.

I thought it would a job where I could use my brain. Instead it is just battling behavior and pushing useless facts. Oh, and filling out paperwork for the needy ones....which these days is every student...

...sorry for hijacking your post!

I've saved up $100,000 though, it 3 years of it.

Yeah, I'm trying to transition back to supply teaching and some tutoring. At least there, there is a bit more control over schedule and workload.

Link true here also as a 35 year Veteran teacher just got on Disability as couldn't take it anymore. Someone telling what you must teach how they want it done now. And parents always reporting you for not giving their child a better grade. And when I nursed loved it now I hear the horror stories and know I never could. I wish for the good old days. Jono working with people , families is so hard.Phillipa

Yeah, teaching is the real deal. Its a great job in theory, but very demanding these days.

It makes you wonder how many of the abused substances out there are (legitimate) self medication for depression. Ketamine, nicotine, opiates, stimulants.....

Thats not bad. Well, I give it to her for lasting 35 years! My mother got out after 10. She went to supply teaching and then just out.

The real problem with it is the unpredictability. Great kids one year, then not the next. Or you get transfered to another school, or they change what you're teaching at the last minute.

When you say supply teaching, do you mean supply chain management/logistics? Thats my field!

There are some cool little supply chain/warehouse logistics videos on YouTube. This one shows the A-frame picking orders at the Spanish pharmaceutical wholesaler Cecofar.

I'm qualified for grades 7-12 (aprox ages 13-18).

I've done two temporary jobs in high school. Now I'm working as a supply (which is easier in some ways).

No, I mean substitute teacher - as in going around to different schools each day.

My background is math/physics. I'd prefer to teach math, but thinking of getting out of teaching alltogether.

...management logistics...hmm...that sounds fufilling :)

Don't have the same responsibilities as a supply teacher. All types of class teaching can be stressful, much more so than being a personal tutor.

my god the responsibilities will kill you.

I'm ok with working hard, but the job *constantly* pulls you in every direction. zero peace.
