I feel *so* much better!

Posted by Christ_empowered on January 27, 2012, at 5:19:51

Its strange, you know, the way Abilify affects you. It creeps up on you. Before you know it, your apartment is a total mess, you can barely concentrate, and you sleep in your day clothes.

Not any more! I feel happier AND calmer AND my attention span is better. I'm also a little angrier, which is good--its good to keep a bit of an edge, I think.

Now, I don't regret the time spent on Abilify. The chemical straight jacket got me through a lot. But that's all over now, I think. Time to move on and grow, face my problems without neuroleptics.

CE I do hope it works for you. Are your parents aware and have you seen them lately as know they can assess your mental condition. Only concerned for you. Phillipa

How long ago did you stop Abilify?

The thing is. Abilify has a long half-life and a long duration of action. If you only stopped recently, the drug is still in your system, and still working. This could mean that you will benefit more from a lower dose of Abilify that you were taking previously. I'm just concerned that if you decide to stop Abilify completely you may suffer a relapse. I think you said this has happened before.

Rather that thinking of Abilify as 'all or nothing', why not try a lower dose eg. 10mg per day instead of 15-30mg and see how you do?

Or I was thinking you should take 30mg once every 3 days.

What is to be gained by doing this?

I don't get a good feeling about "pulsing" Abilify in this manner. It might prevent a homeostasis from being achieved, thus leading to greater mental instability. How about 10 mg every day?

An abrupt discontinuation or precipitous dosage reduction of Abilify might provoke a mania that is being misinterpreted as an improvement in thought clarity. In schizoaffective disorder, I have seen schizoid psychosis develop quite predictably after mania (especially with anxiety) is allowed to appear. Coming off of Abilify probably feels "good" (mania) at first.

I can relate CE.

Zyprexa got me in a deep dark hole without even realisiing it.
My mind just became paralysed and I wasn't aware off what it was doing to me until I stopped.

When I was on it I wanted to die.
6 months of being off it and I enjoy my life and am worried about dying.

I just found that it was more pleasant to take every 3 days. It is a half life of 3 days and not like you are going without it. But I did better with small doses also, even though it did not work out for me in the end. I also found it better to take with zyprexa.
