combinaton of SSRIs?

Posted by maya3 on December 6, 2011, at 5:57:03

Is it possible to take a combinaton of SSRIs? For instance, if someone on lexapro adds a small amount of prozac for the stimulating effect, would he be risking serotonin syndrome?

Some people combine, personally I wouldn't, think it's better to find one SSRI that works best for you. You say you like the Prozac for the stimulating effect, is there a reason why you just can't take Prozac by itself? Or combine Lexapro with something like Wellbutrin?

I combine small or low doses of both luvox and lexapro and the doc says fine. I've read quite a few posts where folks are on pretty high doses of two SSRI's. I'd do it. With docs permission of course. Phillipa

Increase the Prozac to 20mg per day - half a pill is a subtehraputic dose

Try taking 25-50mg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl, Sominex, Nytol) at bedtime along with your Valium

Increase the Valium to a whole pill from the half you currently take

Thank you, herpills and Phillipa (nm)

Full doses of each SSRI may lead to seratonin syndrome, but other than that its little to worry about. Seratonin Syndrome is rare and takes a lot to make happen.

When combining SSRIs, you really want to add complimentary medications together. Luvox+Lexapro is a nice combo.

Eric you approve then of my 50mg of luvox and 2.5 of lexapro or should be raised with the 2.5 xanax & l0mg valium. I'm dead serious? New computer trying to figure out to use it so different please all bear with me. Phillipa

Thanks (nm) » Phidippus

50 mg of Luvox is a starting dose, not really a therapeutic one. 100-200 mg is usually prescribed for depression, while up to 300 mg is prescribed for OCD.

Lexapro's starting dose is 10 mg-20 mg is usually prescribed for depression, while 40 mg is usually prescribed for OCD. At 2.5 mg Lexapro might as well be a placebo.

Your Xanax and Valium seem to be at good dosages.

So if I feel nothing unless I stop the luvox does this mean they do nothing? You mean no serotonin syndrome on both together? I am sick of being sick out of fear. Phillipa

I can gaurantee you the Lexapro is doing squat. The Luvox, I don't know. All I know is its below therapeutic.

Seratonin Syndrome? I had seratonin syndrome once and here's what I was taking:

Lithium 1200 mg
Abilify 30 mg
Clomipramine 100 mg
Mirtazapine 30 mg
Vyvanse 50 mg
Treximet

All of those drugs increase seratonin in some way or another and it took that much to trigger seratonin syndrome.

You have nothing to worry about.

Remember, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Thanks someone once posted on here that lexapro and luvox would or could cause it in me. Phillipa
