Sigi, we are discussing very different woolworth's here.
In the US they were called five and dimes. They had a small lunch or soda counter.
They folded here in the 80's I believe.

Yeah, I see, there's no connection. Very different. Kind of nice in a downbeat way. I've never taken any of those AAPs. I did have breakfast with a friend on mirtazepine and I noticed he had a milkshake. Must be a closet puritan.

Jay and Phil, do you guys really regularly eat like this at MickieD's? Sounds like early death to me.
This is so f*ck*d up. We are giving people these medications to help them feel better, and all the while, both the medications and the diet they induce are going the cause the brain to function worse later in life. High carb diets and bad fats cause brain inflammation, which is believed now to be a primary culprit in neurodegenerative disorders.

Had a physical today. Please step on the scales. OMG.
Even doing psych meds for 30 years, I've never had a weight problem till lithium, zyprexa, and seroquel took up residence.
I'm going to do blood work tomorrow(kinda backwards)and I'm sure the results will be hideous.
As far as my wretched fast food diet, cigarette smoking, and other risk taking, one must realize that life, for so long, has meant little more than death to me.
Although I'm not going to throw myself off of a fishing boat tomorrow with an anchor tied to my leg, if it happened, I'd have no regrets.If that's all there is, then let's keep dancing.

I used to visit an old friend in a nursing home who had had a stroke and been mute for years.
She clung tightly to a teddy bear which had to be prised off her when the time came to eat, which lead to struggles with the staff.
The room smelled of bad food, air and excrement.
One day she spoke and said quite clearly
'Life's not all its cracked up to be.'
And that was it.

As usual, my thread gets off topic but i've heard depressed people choose to forego treatment more than others when dx'd with cancer.
If i'm ever diagnosed stage 4 lung cancer, I doubt that i'd take treatment. i watched my brother struggle through s.e.'s only to get 2 years.
maybe reality would be different for me but it's hardly living when there's chemo and radiation.
Grim topic but if I lived to 80 I'm sure my brain would be jello.
Ah well, should just live for today. la laa la la la la live for today.

The default position of the medical profession is to offer hope.
I had two friends recently die of cancer, and the one who didn't know and whose position was hopeless suffered much less. Just two months.
It's just this death fear thing. After my mother died the oncologist said come round for a chat. And there was a sense of disconnect then when he said 'What can I say?' And I thought 'But you asked us to come round', and it was, I realised, because he was trained to offer hope and his treatment might have be seen t have failed. I should have complimented him on his treatment which was pretty reasonable, but I was confused.
I will be saying to my doc eventually....Don't offer me hope, I don't need it, I need help dying.

When my father died of mesothelioma (lung cancer; his asbestos induced), he was ready to go, but yes, he was afraid. A number of times he felt himself slipping away, and he said it was his body that stopped him. He said it was a fear that he identified as originating in his body.
He refused morphine most of the time, but when he died, he was gasping, unable to speak. He was offered the morphine and he took it; he consented to four times his usual dose. It certainly wasn't a lethal dose, but it was his morphine pillow as some nurses and hospice workers call it. He relaxed and died within five minutes.

There was a British Royal Commission into it at the end of the C19 that came to the conclusion asbstos was dangerous. It was mined here until the 70s, I think, eventually stopped by communist led agitation. It was used for everything....road base (compacted well) for example.

Sigi, it's used in all those giant tankers they dismantle in Bangladesh. It just sprays out all over when they cut them open.
