Parnate cognition

Posted by pragmatic-attack on August 25, 2011, at 15:34:49

I have been on Parnate for about a month and it seems to really help with the depression except for two issues

1)cognition -word finding problems, short term memory and attention

2) Emotional blunting

I am on 60mg(30 twice a day). Would a higher dose Parnate counteract it's own side effects because it becomes more dopamanergic and amphetamine like at higher doses? Or would it just make them worse?

Thanks

I'm in a similar sort of situation. I take 60mg of Parnate along with 40mg of Vyvanse (a stimulant).

At first, this worked well but after 4 months I'm noticing it's antidepressant effect is no longer as strong.

Usually 60mg's is the standard limit, but my doctor said I could possibly up my dose next week. I'm hoping an increase will work

yes I might start vyvanse next week. Do you find the vyvanse crashes at the end of the day or do you take it later in the day?

An MAOI and stimulant mix is not very common because of all the FDA warnings. But after trying so many meds (I have treatment-resistant depression) without success, my doctor was willing to try it. It was a gradual process because of the safety concerns, but in the end it seems to have worked.

When I used to take Vyvanse or Adderall without Parnate, I would get almost hypo-manic even though I'm not bipolar. I would feel awesome and get tons of work done while also socializing. But I would always crash afterwards and feel worse.

The Parnate seems to even the stimulant effect out. I don't get as "hypo-manic" or happy, but I also don't have a big crash. At the end of the day I do get a bit of a dip, but it's certainly no crash. Vyvanse is good to take in the morning, as it lasts longer than Adderall and is more gradual.

Let me know if you got any more questions because to be honest there aren't too many people who have tried this combo. It's not perfect and requires a lot of tweaking, but it has really good potential.
