Tardive dyskeniesia

Posted by ander35 on August 28, 2011, at 21:22:16

I am worried again about TD. I take effexor and I've been on ssris along time but never any thing else. I seem to lick my lips alot and sometimes I open jaw to "crack it" but I am pretty sure I'm controlling it. I don't recall any situation where i licked lips or cracked jaw when I didn;t want to like in a meeting at work. Any thought?

I dont think SSRI's or Effexor are thought to case TD...... I dont think you have anything to worry over.

Maybe start using Chapstick on your lis instead of licking them?

I'm stuck on Abilify for the foreseeable future, so I understand fearing TD. I take lots of antioxidants to prevent the TD from starting. If you think you might have TD--and there are occasional reports here and there of it happening with Effexor and long-term Prozac use--I'd say start with vitamin E and maybe some manganese and see if that helps. You can check out orthomolecular treatment of TD. I think Vitamin E doses range from 800 IU-1600IU (natural form) daily. b6 helps, too, in high doses; it can also help akathisia. You should probably take a couple grams of vitamin c w/ the E.

My husband says my jaw gets tense on parnate. I think this is due to dry month. I have a water bottle with me at all times.
