Ahah

The guy who is treated for premature ejaculation with SSRI then get genital anesthesia, the permanent damage form.. do you think he would have prefer the first problem much ? I do think.. after all that my guess is that this guys girlfriend needs some AD too .. even maybe AP :P

"Oh no Doc, I just broke my nail ! Doc: No problems, heres some AD FDA approoved for 'Broken Nails Syndrome' .. "

> I must be lucky, after 2 weeks from stopping any AD I had full sensation and libido back except with effexor, that took over a month and then I was fine again. While I was taking them that was another story.

I've tried many SSRI and they all gaves me the full collection of sexual side effects.

I'm currently on Nardil 90mg, Risperdal .5mg, Lamictal 350mg, Lyrica 50mg.

I'm about to try Wellbutrin; I hope I'll get some good results like you.

Marty
BTW, if you see that person who's getting the sensations I'm not.. just tell to give me bacl my sensations OR I'll cut my dick into pieces for him to enjoy :)

> first off, it would be helpful to know what you are on and the dosage... but I am pretty sure I've been where you're at with lexapro ( have taken 10 mg and 5 mg over past few months) and I remember that sensation ( or lack thereof) being pretty weird and unpleasant... almost like your genitals aren't there, or somebody else is getting the feelings you're not.

>BTW, are you aware of any class action for the permanent domages of sexual order caused by AD ? I think it's worth fighting for. The least they could do is pay for the research needed to find the best antidote and then pay for it for everyone who has been damaged.

Of course they should, but the losses I--and people in my situation--have incurred are way beyond any monetary value. I lost a beautiful girl I am in love with because I cannot feel passion, and she fell out of love with me. Many relationships have been destroyed in this way. I don't know how you could quantify that.

Even so, we'd like to get a lawsuit to at least bring some attention and satisfaction, but lawyers seem reluctant so far. I think the caveat is that pharmaceuticals can always claim sexual dysfunction is just a symptom of depression, and that we are all just primarily depressed. It's a huge catch 22.

I'm sorry you loose the love of a woman because of this problem; very hard to hear.

Marty
BTW: They can argue that sexual dysfonction is part of depression but they cannot say so about genital anesthesia! .. One of my doc didn't believe me that I wasn't feeling at all. After 3 meeting with him I was so discourage and frustrated that I drop my pants and hit my dick repeatidly as hard as I could .. LOL :P (sad but true) maybe we could do the same in court ;)

I've lost all sensation, desire, etc. I don't get "morning wood" and visual stimulation doesn't work either. No sex drive and I've pretty much forgotten that I have a penis.

I suggest that you get checked for vit. B 12 deficency. It caused me severe lack of sensation.

If you take anti-GERD meds (aciphex, protonix, prilosec, etc..) you MUST get checked, in my opinion.

I dunno how to highlight. I was referring to you saying that you dropped your pants and hit your dick repeatedly as hard as you could. That kind of anaesthesia. I've never had it myself, never having taken SSRIs, although a lot of drugs affect sex negatively.

I have a similar problem Marty. I am 21 years old and after 15 months of paxil (40-60mg). I have little interest in sex and I have a numbness that I get on my testicles. What have you done to help this? Has it gone away completely or do you still have it? I wish I could sue this company but I don't know how to prove that I have this problem. Doctors can't seem to find anything wrong.

In terms of supplements, I have had a lot of success using maca and especially tongkat ali in a strong form (1:200 Pasak Bumi extract from Indonesia). The tiny doses you see in health food store versions are not sufficient. I'm sure we aren't allowed to post commercial links here, but if you look around you should be able to find this for about $60 for 100 300mg capsules at this strength. Fish oil (pharmaceutical grade) is also useful.

I am now almost done with my second week of the new ssri Viibryd and, as promised, it does not seem to have any of the sexual side effects of the older ssris (I was on Celexa for a long time and found it numbing, which is why I started using the herbal supplements I mention above). In fact I am having difficulty concentrating at times due to sexual thoughts and sensations now! Have also gotten morning wood for the first time in ages. So if you are still on an ssri that is causing numbness you might want to try Viibryd instead.

It should go away, but you should stop taking it, if that works for your mental health.

bupropion or yohimbine would be the thing i would try first to get feeling back

on ssris i only got delayed orgasm, but on tranylcypromine i got anaethisia. it went away after a month of taking it, i would not worry that it is irreversable (and the sort of person who needs ssris might worry too much about that :) )

I have been off of it for 4 1/2 months and the feeling has not come back. I have thought about taking bupropion cause I get worried and depressed about it, but I also want to wait and see if things go back to normal without drugs. I am working on the depression naturally.

You might want to get your testosterone levels checked. Over 4 months is a long time.

I don't believe that testosterone is the problem. I did feel a difference in testosterone when I first got off of the medication, but I believe that the testosterone has returned somewhat. I think that the amount of semen being produced is the problem. My testicles aren't producing much cause I have no libido and they get all cold and numb and such. I hope this is some sort of withdraw symptom that will go away with time. It has been very troublesome for me to say the least. I sometimes wonder if I should go back on the medication to see if things go back to normal.

What about for women who are experiencing this from their meds?

Would zinc work for a women or is there other things that would work besides lowering the dosage of meds?

I have no idea, unfortunately. Not being a woman I can't speak from personal experience regarding any of the libido drugs/products that people use. Supposedly women can take tongkat ali, although at a lower dosage than men. In a woman's case it would probably be better to get a 1:50 extract instead of a 1:200 so it would be easier to take much lower doses.

There is another Malaysian/Indonesian herb called Kacip Fatima that is supposed to be the "female Tongkat Ali" but I don't know much about it. Like a lot of sexual enhancing products it has not really been marketed in the West as aggressively as the male ones, so you'd probably have to mail order it to try it.

If you search around you will find a lot of herbs are promoted for female libido like Damiana (which is illegal in Louisiana - I guess it must do something!), Dong Quai, Maca, Ashwaghanda, etc. Just like drugs, I think the only approach is to research them for safety and then try them yourself to see what works for you.

Ginseng and gingko did nothing for me. Tongkat ali and maca on the other hand, definitely work for me. Fish oil seemed to help too but I can't take a lot of it or take it too regularly or there are GI side effects.

I would recommend trying different AD's if you can. I have tried prozac, celexa and zoloft as well as topamax, wellbutrin and desipramine.
I can tell you that prozac and zoloft were really bad on sexual function. desipramine and topamax were a little easier. Wellbutrin seems to increase desire but not anything else.
