New to Parnate, few questions

Posted by Alpam on July 26, 2011, at 4:58:33

Hi all, I am new to this site but have been reading it lately and am seeking some help to a few questions that I have on Parnate.

I have been on 200mg of Pristiq for about a year now, my doctor has dropped me to 100mg for 2 days, then 50mg for 2 days then to stop it, today is my first day off it. I am to start the Parnate in a week, 20mg, then move up to 40mg in 2 weeks time with the option of going up to 60mg. I am also taking 40mg of Dexamphetamine which my doctor wants me off before I start the Parnate. The thing is that for the 4.5 years I have been on the Dex it has been an absolute life saver and I am quite scared to come off it, it improves my mood, reduces anxiety, improves concentration and motivation, it has worked better then and antidepressant I have been on. I am also taking lamictal, Abilify, Propranolol and Melatonin in addition.

My main questions are:

My doctor does not know much about mixing Parnate with amphetamine, but he said that I could go back on the Dex once I have started the Parnate, how long do you generally have to wait before restarting? Can I go back up to my previous dose of 40mg, or would that be too high mixing it with the Parnate.

I have been told I can't have soy sauce, is that any amounts? or can I have a tiny bit with my sushi?

I have heard that it is possible to test positive for Methamphetamine while on parnate, is this true? And is it dose or type of test dependant?

Thanks for your help

Re: dex., these might be helpful:

I stay away from soy sauce completely as it can be unpredictable. The tyramine content varies from safe to very dangerous amounts by brand and batch (my understanding is that is has to do with whether it was fermented the traditional way, or made with a modern, quicker production method). And be wary of other sauces at Asian restaurants (Teriyaki, ginger salad dressing) that are made with soy sauce as well.

I was able to discontinue Dexedrine without complication. Maybe similarly to you, I said that dexedrine was the single agent that turned the lights on for me. As long as you do not need to be at a highntop performance, my guess is you will be alright letting go of it. Then you get to add some back? Sounds like your doctor is working heroically on your behalf. Very best to you! Hang tight.
