Klonopin anti-manic?

Posted by sheilac on July 18, 2011, at 7:26:47

Tried and tried Lithium and I hate the hair loss.

Geodon is by far the best antidepressant I have ever taken (I know it is an anti-psychotic). It takes away my anger and irritability.

Taking it 2x a day is ok, but after morning dose I fall asleep for several hours and ingest waaaay too much caffine and Adderall to make it through the day. That's just stupid.

Do well on Klonopin as an add-on for anxiety.

Wondering about taking Geodon and Klonopin at dinner, 5mg Adderall XR in morning and Klonopin around noon to help with any daytime highness/anxiety?

Anyone use a benzo or Klonopin during the day to "keep a lid" on their mood? A traditional mood stabilizer seems too strong for me during the day.

I may ask my doc about this.

I do love how Geodon makes me feel. I didn't nag my husband or blow up one bit this weekend. It's so nice to realize a situation you normally would have lost your cool and due to meds, you didn't. I guess that means the meds are working.

I personally hated Klonopin. I took it for anxiety and panic. It was somewhat effective as an anxiolytic, however, it really made my depression a whole lot worse. I certainly wouldn't try it again.

Have you considered/tried Zyprexa or Seroquel, once daily, taken before bedtime?

Klonipin seemed to make me more aggitated and well, worse. worse depression, worse irritability, aggressive, cruddy sleep.
i know seems the opposite of what should be but i was also on abilify at the time.
we were'nt for sure exactly what caused it but it was so bad i stopped both.
but i took it alone before i started abilify and slowly more aggitated. think abilify just magnified that.

but remember you are individual and what didn't work for me, may work very well for you.

Best wishes.
b2c.

I LOVED Zyprexa when I tried it. Doc didn't want me to stay on it due to weight gain. But it helped with depression and anxiety, irritability, etc.

Seroquel was great for sleep at 25mg - 50mg at night but made me a monster the next day. When I went up to 100mg I started gaining weight.

My doc really wants me to keep my weight the same or lose some weight. That is why pushing Geodon.
